Why cap the upload speed? Maybe it's all political... like they want more money for an upgraded package that allows higher upload speeds?

Real Estate is more affordable in Portland than it is in the bay area. I'm not sure about the wages up there though. It seems that the cost of living continues to rise, but wages stay the same. Now I'm all depressed again thinking about it.

Cost of living has increased quite a bit over the past 10 years or so, and it's due to a large extent to people from California moving up here. It has started stabilized now but for a while there housing prices were making insane jumps, but it was because buyers from California wouldn't bat an eye at prices that made most people gasp.
I live on the Columbia River gorge out on the east side of the city, here we have pretty nasty winters. Basically it's due to the wind coming out of the gorge, all structures have to be rated for high wind speeds. For a 5 year period there it was almost comical, people buying and moving into houses 1 summer only to be moving and selling the next summer.
Being located between Seattle and Silicon Valley means there is a lot of technology related work in the area, in fact I think it was about 5 years ago the technology industry in Oregon overtook the agricultural based.
If you are seriously considering moving out here, I'd look at the Beaverton or Milwaukee areas. Milwaukee is a bit older area but has a huge advantage of relatively quick access to the downtown Portland area, my one concern with that area is there has seemed to be a growing crime rate. Beaverton is more yuppie land and I'll be honest I'd rather live with the wind then make that commute everyday, however there is a lot of business in Beaverton it's self so it might be an option if you worked there. The Gresham area might also be a good option to look at although you'll want to look south to avoid the shitty winter and east to avoid the crime.
Oh... and there is one major thing to get past living in Portland, a large portion of the year is usually pretty cloudy. A few years ago we had overcast every day for nearly 4 months strait. If you are really into beautiful sun shinny days your only going to have that frequent right around summer time. Months of overcast even start to grate on the nerves of people who have lived here for years, it might take some getting used to.

Leu, you ever go to the Mt. Hood area much? If I remember right it was only like an hour or so from there? That is a pretty killer area. I went to Hood one time years ago for a training camp when I used to ski race

I reran this on my DMZ server, and it was quite a bit faster, than my wireless laptop in my bedroom. Upload is capped, I guess.

I'm not into skiing or snow boarding (or really snow at all... fyi "snow" is a four letter word
), so I don't head up there in the winter most of the time. That being said it's a beautiful area and I don't make it up there as often as I'd like, and there are other things to do besides snow sports. I went in the summer, hiked, climbed, all kinds of stuff other than ski. Was fun training ont he glacier in the middle of 75 degree summer though hehe dont get that chance much
