I will agree that pits can tend to be violent dogs, but 9 times out of 10 I guarantee it's how they're raised. *This* particular case is not one of pit violence, however.

Regardless of the type of dog it is, any pit owner *knows* of the controversy with pits - you're not ever supposed to leave a dog alone with a child, it's pure ignorance. It's pretty obvious that this dog did not intend to hurt and it was just plain old male dog animal instinct - if there's a hole, it'll stick it in. My dad's Pomeranian humps his dog bed and tries to hump the cat - can you say that there's violent intent there? Of course no one would say that, he's a damn pomeranian.

The mother is fucking stupid, period. It's a horrible story, yes, but leaving your child alone long enough to let a dog penetrate him is just plain bad parenting.

It still comes down to the dogs nature.

These are dogs bred to fight and with known nasty tendencies. They are essentially bred to be alpha dogs.

It says more about the person who has kids that they'd buy a Pit Bull than about the breed. There is a reason they are getting that type of Dog and not a Golden Retriever or a Dachsund...

I got Jack, the pit bull puppy after I had Girl. That alone says nothing of the people. My beef is she left her baby alone with a dog, any breed.

people who blame everything on environment are just wrong

genetic tendencies play a big role in animals (humans too!) and shouldn't be discounted

there's a reason pit bulls are kept as fighting dogs

it's not like someone randomly picked a breed and decided to introduce aggression, etc etc into it

it was there to start with, they've just selectively bred the traits to a purer form

It does in my opinion. In my mind, anyone with a Pit Bull with young kids isn't putting their kids first.

It doesn't matter if you are there or not, if a breed has a history of being a killer, and you have it in your house with very young kids, then it's added danger that doesn't make sense to me.

Then again, so many parents smoke, keep loaded guns in their house, and do so many other much, much more dangerous things, I guess I'll just put it down to natural selection at work for the human race~
What saves a man is to take a step. Then another step.

I'd agree with you about the dogs nature if this was actually an attack - this dog didn't attack the child, he humped it. A dog doesn't know the difference between a human's leg and a female dog - the dogs violent nature isn't relevant here, it didn't know it was hurting the kid. The relevant point that should be standing out is the bad parenting, and it's a shame that she's going to be victimized and empathized with while the dog is going to be scrutinized and blamed for nothing other than instinct.

The victim here is the child, but the mother is who's going to relish in the press from her child's pain. *That* is the sick part, not the dogs instinct. He should've been neutered - male dogs hump - that obviously wasn't a concern of hers. Child humping (obviously) isn't a concern with anyone who has a dog, but it IS common knowledge dogs will hump anything they can get their little winkies on when they're trying to relieve themselves, and you would *think* that it's common knowledge not to leave a dog alone with a young child.

well no of course, I definitely agree - there *is* a reason they're kept as fighting dogs; however, environment will play a factor in whether they are able to be raised with a family or whether they will solely be used for violence.

There are plenty of pits that can be raised as family pets and are wonderful dogs.

Again though, THIS case has *nothing* to do with animal violence.

Whatever, why anyone with a child or even without a child would opt to own a pitbull when there are hundreds of other breeds out there is beyond me.

Why even take the chance?

I don't disagree with you

a well treated pit bull is likely to be a nicer dog to have kids around than a mistreated collie

ps

as horrible as this story is, the first thing I thought of was that mexican dude who was trying to take a shit in the field and got raped by a donkey

Luke, Gid's mom's Australian Shepherd humps the dumb Choc Lab, Casey's head all the time. He also goes behind him when he's walking and tries to bite his weenis.
Random. Sorry.

you're all over the place in this thread ginz >.<

parents fault or dogs fault, what say you!

I'm referencing
Whatever, it's the parents fault. "Dog raping a child"? That's absurd. It suggests the dog knows what rape is and that it knew what it was doing was wrong. Go to a dog park, half of them are trying to fuck anything that moves.
btw!

When I was in school, I didnt live in th ebest part of town really, right by campus, but still a lot of crackhouses and shit around. So in the alley behind the house there was a crackhouse, its since been demolished and shit but there used to be all kinds of hookers and druggies and shit around, but they had a pit bull tied to a chain in the backyard that would try to lunge at everybody that walked past it going to class. One day it got off its chain and came into my yard showing its teeth and acting shady, so I beat it with a pipe, then it limped off never to be seen again. The end.

My old German Shepherd was stolen from my parent's backyard. The only explaination is that she was going to be used in fighting, which is sad because she was scared of everything. She's dead most likely now.

There used to be dog fighting up the road from us here too. We were going to call in a tip, but someone went in and robbed them one night and stabbed a bunch of people before we could. Beat me to it :(

well

more people die due to donkey attacks every year than die in plane accidents

lemme see if I can actually dig up the statistics to support that, I know i've seen it somewhere
