Sorry, but he had a golden opportunity to show he does/did care for the troops when he was scheduled to visit wounded GI’s in Germany, but opted to go to the gym instead because [they] wouldn’t let him bring the cameras with him.

And before someone says it. Let me head you off now. No, the Pentagon did NOT tell him he couldn't go. They said he couldn't take his camera "crew" with him.

The Pentagon made the rule so that the troops wouldn’t end up being used as political props – and it was applied to BOTH McCain and Obama. Yet, rather than man up – deal with the rule at a later date – Obama basically said “fuck you” to the wounded and went to work out. Nice – and this asshole wants to be the Commander and Chief?
Obama cares about as much for our troops as he does for catching the flu.

There might very well be a great deal of liberals and Democrats that do care about the troops - Obama isn't one of them. Or, at the very least doesn't care about them as much as he wants Joe Voter to believe.

Uh, no.

Here's what happened from the man himself:

“The staff was working this so I don’t know each and every detail but here is what I understand happened,” Obama said. “We had scheduled to go, we had no problem at all in leaving, we always leave press and staff off — that is why we left it off the schedule. We were treating it in the same way we treat a visit to Walter Reed which I was able to do a few weeks ago without any fanfare whatsoever. I was going to be accompanied by one of my advisors, a former military officer.”

Continued Obama, “And we got notice that he would be treated as a campaign person, and it would therefore be perceived as political because he had endorsed my candidacy but he wasn’t on the Senate staff. That triggered then a concern that maybe our visit was going to be perceived as political. And the last thing that I want to do is have injured soldiers and the staff at these wonderful institutions having to sort through whether this is political or not or get caught in the crossfire between campaigns.”

“So rather than go forward and potentially get caught up in what might have been considered a political controversy of some sort,” Obama said, “what we decided was that we not make a visit and instead I would call some of the troops that were there. So that essentially would be the extent of the story.”

As has been reported many times, he decided not to go BECAUSE it would have made the troops into political props. It had nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not he had a camera crew with him. He didn't have one when he went to Walter Reed, and he didn't have one when he was visiting the troops in Jordan and Afghanistan.

Straight from Snopes, here's some quotes from troops that met with him while he was overseas. None of which had anything to do with camera crews:

Go here: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/afghanistan.asp

Well, OK, the DOD recorded him having breakfast with the troops, but that's hardly a news crew. Note the comments from the people at the bottom who met with him, and the comments from the guy at the end of the DOD's video. Oh sure, this is someone who has no care for the troops. Riiiiiight.

Basically, you're just parroting false information used to slam him, same as with that list of 50 lies that got posted here earlier, just a different one this time.

Small derail here, why? Why do folks feel the need to do this? I can understand losing your password or whatever but if a mod knows someone is someone else, I don't get why.

Jon Stewart points out some amazing hypocrisy by the Republicans. All directly from video clips of their own words... Talk about :owned:

Oh, it's worse than that. A CNN reporter was talking to a representative of the McCain campaign, and actually insisted on a answer about the Palin vetting process, and why they thought she was qualified, etc., instead of letting the guy talk in circles. As a result, the McCain campaign called the interviewer all kinds of names, and had McCain withdraw from appearing on Larry King's show in "protest". So much for the "straight talk express", eh?

Here's the interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYYiw_y2qDI

She owns the weasel. :)

Note that when the National Guard is deployed overseas, the governor doesn't command them, they are completely under the command of the Pentagon and the Army at that point. Oh, and the vast number of troops in the Alaska national guard? Less than 2000... So much for "any decision made about the guard while they're overseas being foreign policy experience."

As for Palin giving an interview, I just saw an interview with someone else from McCain's campaign who said they won't let her give interviews until they're sure she'll be treated with "deference"...

Meanwhile, Obama actually went and sat down for an appearance on Bill O'Reilly's show, despite all the crap Fox has pulled.

I leave it for the reader to decide which candidate has actually displayed balls in dealing with the media...

Not that I'm endorsing McCain or defending Palin, but when has she or McCain ever said anything about the treatment she's getting from the Media? The only thing I can find about it is Barack saying that family should be left alone by the news.

I've seen several articles about that on CNN alone, Eziekial. They whined up a storm over that video clip I posted, and had McCain pull out of a planned appearance on Larry King over it. All because a reporter finally was doing their job, and demanding someone actually answer a question, not just talk around it....

well personally i don't see how you could NOT ask questions about what's going to happen with her family, you know? seriously, her party markets itself as family values-oriented, so how can you NOT pose the question, "well, if you're elected VP, who's going to be a mother to those five children of yours, especially the one who inevitably needs more care and time?" as triel said, caring for the child is part of the motherhood package; it's not sexism, it's nature, and i think it's a pretty valid question.

I think categorizing people as either right wing or liberal is pretty dumb.

Okay, let me rephrase. Is everyone on this board but Mindia against McCain/Palin?

Better?

Personally, I'd like to see McCain win to piss people off.

Not that I like the guy any...I just fucking despise politics so much that I want people to get so pissed off they actually do something about it for once.

Diekan has stated he's not "for" McCain/Palin, but will vote that ticket. Lyion, I imagine, will be voting McCain/Palin. Martrae has said she'll write-in, but I think (don't yell at me if I'm wrong!) she usually leans right. Ziek is the same way, I think? (usually leans right, I mean)

I'm an independent, but very anti-McCain/Palin for several reasons and very pro-Obama/Biden for even more reasons. though an independent I generally lean to the left, and I'd say the majority of this board tends to "lean" left, but wouldn't categorize them either way.

It isn't uncommon or wrong by any means for a working or (or non working even) woman to have a nanny. It used to be the common way in the olden days anyway, and it still is for many families with means to afford it, as well as in other countries.

I don't know if Palin has one, or would plan to, but I wouldn't look down on her for that if she did. I'd be even more impressed if she didn't, though, and don't think she can't handle it. My mother would tell you that one is just as challenging as three, and I don't think the "what are you gonna do with your five kids" is really relevant.

I'll be honest, she's taking some serious heat, and I don't blame her for not accepting interviews right away. The liberal media is ripping this woman apart, the media on the right are defending her every way possible, and it isn't really any different than any other politician. I listened to and watched the news all day today and it's really just one big circus.
