anyway, i think there are ways that she could've stated her position without drawing lines in the sand. if you know it's a particularly polarizing topic, state your feelings but then wrap it up with something diplomatic: "personally, i was raised to believe x, but people are free to feel however they want to feel and it's up to the politicians to make the final call" or something like that. that way, she's being honest about her beliefs but not stepping on any toes. *shrug* just a thought.

I think it's that type of mindset that fosters these sort of situations in the first place. This belief where everyone has to cater to everyone.
