Goblin Warrens does some of what you want but some of the new rules make it less good. It's good for turning two dead creatures into 3 live ones, but you can't use it after dmg is dealt anymore, meaning those dead goblins won't kill your opponents creatures first during combat.
I run a lot of token decks too. Heritage druids + elvish promenade will give you near infinite mana. I combine those with distant melody to try like 15+ cards at a time means huge turns. Play with Essence Wardens and your life total will be pretty insurmountable too. Just worry about Pyroclasms.

i find that opponents really hate it when i drop a scarred wastes card followed immediately by three blues and a spurned djinn
either that or a one-two combo of rabid wombat + feast of alvis, that usually cleans up any lingering gloom they have in play

A cheap alternative to Anthems is Leonin Sun Standard.
http://www.cardkingdom.com/catalog/item/72193If you have mana to spare it works well.

Might have to get a few of those I didnt know about that card, I always have mana to spare and then some unless my opp is fuckin up my mana. Ive got tohers besides the anthems. Another one I like that I only have one set of well im forgetting the name but its a creatures you controll get 11 and its got a kicker for taking creatures out of the graveyard. Theres also crusades if you feelin lucky 10 million creatures that will do it for knights or soldiers and on and on. Think thran weaponry will give you 22 but its got echo.

Rabid Wombat is a real card... it used to be pretty powerful too.

It's pretty much outclassed by newer cards. Equipment and Loxodon Punisher come to mind.
Awesome picture though.

today I picked up
4 rupture spire
4 quirion elves
2 zombie infestation
4 twisted abombs
4 boartusk liege
4 gem palm incinerator
2 goblin chieftain
4 ghostly changleling
4 reassembling skeletons
2 sutured ghoul
and 2 cemetery reaper.
I went up to the magic store today and was playing against a guy whos a magic judge. he was one of the best I have ever played against and while i did lose to him several games i was able to hold my own in several games and it made me feel pretty good about myself and my skills. With him telling me what cheap zombies to get we took my death barron deck and made it go from so so to pretty damn hardcore. Im glad I took my backpack with me originally I was just going to get the goblins. I also played against a very strange man who looked like a pedophile and kept telling me about how hot the angle on the glorious anthem was. I took him down with my squirrel deck and went back to playing with the judge. I find out there is going to be a legacy leauge in the fall and im thinking about joining that shit.

That's why I don't really play with random people at gameshops. People who play these games are often very weird. I have 6 or 7 friends who all play from time to time and I just play with them.

Only the one dude was creepy. There were a few gs that made me wonder how they got into the game and the rest were just nerds of various age.

I still actively play MTG 2x a week... started in 1998-99 with Urza's Saga. Even after all this time it's still such a great game.
For those of you who have played since the good old days and are looking to pick up the game again, the Commander variant comes highly recommended. You basically pick a legendary creature as your "commander," and build a 100 card deck: limit only 1 copy of any card in the deck (no duplicates, besides basic lands), and the cards can only be in the color of the commander. You start at 40 instead of 20 life. You can play the commander card as if it were in your hand, and each time it dies it costs an additional (2) extra to play. The way the decks are constructed really slows down the games, and let's you play all the wacky and bomby cards that didn't make the cut for competitive tournaments, and it is extremely multiplayer friendly.
They just released precon commander decks that are really good for getting right into it and/or using as a basic framework to add your own stuff into.

I recently read up on commander and I'm trying to push it on some of my droogs. It seems interesting to spice up the game a bit. Makes the games a bit more random. A friend of mine is worried the decks will be too powerful because the legends will come out too quick. I doubt this will be the case since all decks will likely be loaded with removal.
I'm thinking of making a deck around this guy and some good enchantments.
http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=189645Sadly, it's kind of a variation of Brins wombat deck.

Legacy is my fave format. EDH is really populer right now and making the market for old cards act crazy. Ill prolyl pick up a commander premade sometime soon and tweak it a bit.

not cool enough for the actual magic community and too nerdy for the real world, but we downloaded the ps3 version a few weeks ago--highly addictive, but not sure I'd be any good at playing with my own deck. of course, so far as I can tell the PS version is going to have pretty obvious limitations in deck customization.
some of the little tidbits of lore that are offered up are pretty interesting, though--that was always my favorite part of any game was the lore. the PS version doesn't really offer enough to grasp the entire storyline though.

Neither do the cards..... There are books for you to read if your into that. I play cuz i like to play but every once in a while ill read toe story or at least look up the who what when were why online some place. They also were making cards for the game before there was an actual story to go with it.
