Another reason "online" only sucks. Every time I log in, it hasn't saved my progress properly and I end up having to do a bunch of shit over again.

Runs silky smooth on mine with all graphics options maxed. The recommended specs are pretty low if I recall.

Died my first attempt at Diablo. I'll just say there's 3 phases to the fight, and each phase can be kinda long. I died in phase 3 with Diablo at like 10% life. So amazingly frustrating, reminded me of every big raid mob that's wiped us at 5% or less health.

L34 Wizard now, going through nightmare.

Have little desire to start over again and less desire to play on anything but Hardcore mode. The fact that I didn't die once in almost 12hrs of play is pretty lame. EZ MODE game.

Oh, it gets harder, believe me. Most people won't die until act 3 or so, then Belial likely will kill you a couple times, then there's a good chance you will get gacked several times in act 4. (Having several elites in the same area, one of which yanks you to them, another one of which roots you, while you get fire breathed on you from multiple directions at once... yeah, definitely good chance of death.) Once you get to Nightmare and above, dying becomes a much more likely thing, as mobs get a shit ton more HP, do a lot more damage, and get additional abilities.

They should have let you choose your difficulty to begin with.

I didn't die until Belial, discounting the one time I had to run rescue a little person in my household who decided he wanted to plunge the toilet nonstop to see what would happen... anyways, Act III I've been instagibbed twice. I'm using a glass cannon approach so my Wizard can just lay waste to masses of monsters. I may have to bring down the DPS for some more health in Act IV, methinks.

I really am enjoying the Wizard now. I've played around with a half dozen different spell approaches. I've also been dumping my cash into crafting which is a nice distraction.

When I finish Normal mode I'd like to do more coop on Hardcore. I think I'll try a Barbarian next.

Game is a hoot. It was somewhat meh to me at the beginning, but once I broke out my N52 and started mashing the loot RNG the old Diablo magic came back. I do wish the graphics were a bit better, but that's not a huge complaint.

U obviously never played d2 that much. Picking your difficulty would be retarded

Obviously.

I didn't die until some timed dungeon in the desert. Everything was easy mode until that dungeon. I am still not sure what happened. I entered the dungeon and was dead in about 3 seconds. Lame.

Is everyone playing Wizard? I thought Monk was the obvious first choice so I thought I'd be different. Lame.

Y'all want to hook up sometime? I'm on every night. Think I'm level 25 because I only have a few hours to play each night (PST, not CST anymore :o).

A L1 player would have no hope whatsoever of killing even the most trivial nightmare trash mob, pretty much, unless they were able to kite it for 20 minutes, and even then, probably not. If you wanted to let people "Select their difficulty level", you'd have to let them start with a L30 character with L30 gear to start at nightmare, and then what would the point of playing through on normal be?

There are certain combinations of creature abilities that are almost instant death, unless I suppose you've gone the Hardcore setup route and totally devoted your character to survivability. Any combination of things that either root you or summon you to the mob, plus any sort of ongoing damage effect can easily do it. (More esoteric combinations like Fire chains + Illusionist will do it too, but that's rarer.)

The same pattern held in D1 and D2 as well: The first act of normal mode was basically the tutorial levels of the game. It introduced you to the game, your powers, etc. The end boss for act 1 could be somewhat challenging, but usually wasn't too bad. The difficulty started ramping up in act 2, and ramped further in act 3. By Act 4, dying was a very very real possibility. Then, once you finished in normal and moved to Nightmare, the gloves start coming off. Act 1 still isn't too bad, but insta-death is now quite possible, but by the end boss of act 2, things get very very tough. (Nightmare Belial was NOT easy, even teamed up with a demon hunter)

Anyway, that's how the game is. Anyone who plays hardcore and even REACHES nightmare has done something pretty amazing, and to make it to Hell or now Inferno? Won't be more than a handful of those, if that, especially now that health potions are on a 30sec cooldown, which they weren't in earlier games, as I recall.

Heh, I went wizard from the beginning. Monk is actually like 4th on my list with this game. Wizard 1st, Barbarian 2nd, Demon Hunter 3rd, Monk 4th, Witch Doctor 5th.

But oh yes, I'm loving wizard. My current setup (set up for soloing, would change if I grouped with a tank regularly): left click is electrocute with chain lightning. Right click is disintegrate with convergence. Frost nova with Shatter, Blizzard with Frozen Solid, Ice Armor with Chilling Aura, and Archon with Arcane Destruction. Passives are Evocation, Astral Presence and Galvanizing Ward.

Currently am early in Act 3 of nightmare, L47. About 7k HP (kinda low, but then, I'm a wizard), armor of 1382, and damage stat of 1548.

Most people I see are playing Barbs. I thought Monk would be most peoples first choice. Who'd a thunk.

I'll probably be playing the same pace as you. I had a free weekend last weekend so got to 32. I can't play as much as Arlos or others.

I tend to crash at 11 PM EST which is probably when you'll start playing.

Added everyone on the list here. Ping me if you want to coop

I think I'm going to go:

Wizard then Witch Doctor... then either monk or barbarian next with Demon Hunter coming last. I liked the Assassin just fine in D2, but couldn't stand the Amazon. I'm really just not into archer types in any game. Elder Scrolls is the exception, for some reason.

Lyion, I usually get on around 10pm PST. It just depends on what the wife is doing. I'll look for you guys this week.

I'm running a 6970 on my desktop and have zero issues, so I doubt it's an ATI issue.

Maybe a heat issue?
