I bought an Xbox today... with 4 games (Fable, LoTR, Morrowind, and Legacy of Kain - Defiance).
I'll buy a PSII next week.

not sure about LoTR or Fable. Morrowind was good though.

I used to be a bigtime console gamer, I chose the PS2 over the gamecube and the xbox for two primary reasons.
The ps2 got certain games that you just cant miss. If your a fan of RPG's, and certain game companies that only make games for sony, its all PS2. Also old games are still good games, and with the ability to play ps1 games in your ps2, you have a huge selection of amaizing games.
If your one of thoes retards (excuse the lack of better words) thats entire graphic orientated (oh, I thought of a word, 14-years old) and perfers sports games, the xbox is your machine.
Personally id be happy with an snes as long as the games were good. Dont even bring up gamecube, nintendo may as well take the same fate as sega at this rate.

ps, people that are just buying consoles annoy me. Somehow in my mind they fit into that new-age graphics only shit I hate.
I heard fable was quite shallow, so few game hours, mostly just flashy graphics and the ability to do stuff. Sorta like GTA.

Fable is fantastic. It's unlike any other game really. The main storyline is pretty short but then it contains tons of side quests, puzzles, social "Sims" like functions etc. I can definitely tell they intended it to be longer and larger but I assume they are saving some of the content that didn't make it in for a sequel or something.
