In my case... As a druid i had 2 choices
cow or night elf,
i've played both, but reality is i chose alliance based on majority of guild members choice...
Considering there were family that wanted to be pally's and noone wanted to be shaman, it was fairly obvious. Easy to adapt either way.
On our server, there are more horde than alliance, FoH is horde with second largest member base.
but based on alot of people whining about how wow's characters werent customizable enuf, and how they looked like toons etc it was obvious a fair amount do choose based on that when new to a game

Wrong.

Your server is actually pathetically imbalanced towards the Noobliance side.
It's funny how all the women are sensitive to how their fucking VIDEO GAME CHARACTER isn't "pretty". Are you that self-concious?

What Lyion is referring to is the days of real EQ, when the high level crowd in fact were skilled and were not so pussified that they required eliminating hell levels, massive ZEM for noobie zones, gifts of raid level gear through retarded dungeons (LDoN) and graveyards. EQ players who started after 2002 were in fact pussies.
Actually, quite a few of the top-notch players I met were still around even after GoD was released. That said, unbalanced ZEMs and equipment drops were introduced during Kunark, which is why I mentioned it as the beginning of the decline in difficulty. Even in the original EQ however, stupid people were the norm rather than the exception. Essentially being forced into dungeons beat it out of some people, but by no means all. How many Vox raids got wiped by some idiot aggroing the bears? How many people fucked up the buff/camp rotation during Naggy and had buffs fail at inopportune times? These weren't even demanding tasks... they just required the ability to follow simple instructions.

Look at it this way
During the 5+ years I played EQ, i could generally count on meeting 1 random person a day that was actually pretty good at the game
in the 13 or 14 months of WoW that I've been playing, the number of random people I've met that have been decent AND were also non EQ'ers?
4
Having an EQ background makes WoW a very easy game to pickup

I'd definitely agree with that, but I'm not sure that it marks the WoW crowd as necessarily inferior to the EQ crowd. it just means that they have a five year experience deficit in an MMO environment to overcome. It's like a basketball player jumping to the NBA from high school instead of taking the college route, it's just going to take some time to acclimate and catch up experience wise.
here u go...

if you read mine i said i chose night elf because... guild decided alliance based on preference of classes etc..
I prefer druid over all classes... and there is one choice for alliance there.
I could care less what i look like thats why i didnt care. I played horde with friends in beta as a druid as well on beta1

I guess the difference that I see is that people tend to remain clueless longer in WoW, than in EQ
I had a lvl 41 hunter ask me the other day how my pet was doing "all those extra neat attacks"
He didn't know about taming other pets, learning abilities, then teaching them to his pet
you know, kind of what the whole class is based on
The fact that you can make it to lvl 41 and be that clueless....it speaks volums about the game, jeje

I have been running into alot of hunters that dont know jack about the class. Must just be that they solo so well people stay with them and never need to actually learn anything to be successful. Ran into a hunter the other night who had gun skill under 100 and no bow skill at level 40. How do you get to 40 and not realize that most of your skills are based around ranged combat.

there's a huge segment of the hunter class (the morons) that want it to be a melee based class with a pet
they want to be like beastlords or some shit

I was long gone way before POP, Xao. I can't talik EQ after 2001, but before I left sucky people were completely ostracised
The early days of original EQ and Kunark, the community was small and it was easy to see who sucked ass and who didn't. I have no idea what happened with EQ, and my post is just about the early days, like Paul said.

EQ was fun until the shithole of Luclin hit
PoP was fun again for a while too, but then LDoN and GoD killed the momentum

POP killed the game for me.
Ridiculously stupid zerg encounters...fucked up scripts etc.
Luclin was almost as bad...man I fucking hate luclin.

i know a bunch of RL females that all went alliance because of the "ugliness" of the horde chars =\ kinda sucks when like 50% of the RL females that play the game normally play healers and then they go alliance leaving you with (usually) shitty shamans who melee and nuke and dont heal and sub par priests (rare spawns too)

Go go subpar Shamans! Mighty Morphin Shaman Ninjas!

Melee Hunters ccc
At 56 my rifle skill is still 115 though. I havn't had a rifle since I gave up my northwatch keep quest rifle for a Venomstrike from WC when I was 22~
I did just give up my Verdant Keeper's bow for a Heartseeker xbow though (I love how relatively painless it is to level up a new skill from 0-max).
Best 20g I ever spent in the AH np

Less female drama is a wonderful reason to play Horde.

One thing i have noticed are clerics from EQ that go to WoW... and think that the healing strat that worked for EQ will work for WoW.. and i WAS one of these people at first.
100% holy tree thinking that was the best way to go ect, ect...
i have since re-speced my priest to be 75% disc 25% holy, works well for me... and I have even been in a few 2 priest groups... opnce was with a shadow priest... and that was fun, i healed the whole time and he pushed out some insane DPS. Second time was with another disc/holy priest and even though i didnt think 2 of the same spec priests would stack, we worked it out the other priest healed i did backup healing but mostly i mind controled as part of the CC in the group.. man that was fun
i used to hate shadow only priests telling them that healing was the only option.... tiill i got tired of suckign ass solo and re did my talents... now i realise its the holy only ones that have their heads up their asses... this isnt EQ, the game is much diffrent , you are almost meant to solo most of your way to 60

Last Night while talking to the alliance mage that was farming level 1 noobs on my alternate character, she/he went into a hysterical fever when I used the spelling:
Noob.
That person insisted it was Newb, and that Noob should never be used...
This coming from a person killing level 1s in the Undead Noob area.
Thank God Vonkaar one shotted this person.
Too bad he didnt do it in real life.

Vonkaar will be happy to know that the same person "Knux" or something? female human mage was corpse camped by me for 5-6 kills during last night's pvp fest.
