This will only tell you that the power supply works. You will need another test to see if the computer work.
Ahh yes.... good point.

In order to help you, We need to analyze the noise your computer is making. So you need to record it and up load it.

my mic broke a while ago... and that test didn't work very well, it just made my balls hurt.

I think you may have a venereal disease, sir. Please see your health care physician immediately.

Don't you have to have sex with a partner in order to contract a disease? If so, then I'm sure he's probably ok.

I think it would be best if you cut both your nuts off before the infection spread.

Seriously though...
I have this itch to buy 1 more gigorbyzite of Ram. My question is, "Which is going to be more effective performance-wise for EQ2... having 2 gigs of PC2700 or 1 gig of PC4400?"
Take everything else out of consideration, such as: processor, mobo, gpu, etc.

I chuckle when I see someone arguing with an expert on a topic.
Lyion, I'm sure, is 100% up to speed on how drive speeds, number of spindles, number of units in arrays, etc. all impact overall system performance. It's part of the job of being a DBA. However, Finawin, who wants to be a computer guy one day, seems to think he can correct Lyion.
Too funny.

Mindia - you have a good system. What's the performance problem you're trying to correct?
If you're looking at ways to make it better, you could consider going with a SCSI disk system. The extra memory would give you some increase in performance, but as was already said, not a whole lot unless you're running a bunch of other shit in the background. The video card and the other system peripherals aren't going to make much of a difference, either. You've gotten to the point of diminished returns... you CAN make it better but the cost associated with it is only worth it to the select few that aspire to having the absolute best, fastest, <insert adjective here> system available.

Ok fair enough. I just want to point out that SOE
recommends that you have a
minimum of 1 gig of Ram to run EQ2. When they say that, what I really see is, "We think you should have 2 gigs of Ram, but 1 gig should be sufficient to run the game smoothly." EQ2 gets laggy as hell sometimes, and in some zones more than others and it has nothing to do with population. Also, Comcast just upped their internet broadband to 4.1mbps with no additional cost.
The lagginess in the game is driving me nuts. I know there is a simple formula to rectify this, but I want to be sure I buy the right thing. I also know that the lag is not caused by my HD... if it were then I'd see me HD activity light flashing when in the game, but I don't. Another thing is that I can't even run the game at maxed-out settings even with the Nvidia 6800 GT Overclocked video card. That's why I really think it's a RAM issue.

I just bought a gig of pc3200 to beef up my system. It says on the box that it's compatible with pc2700, so does that mean I can run them simultaneously with my pc2700 sticks in dual channel? Or do I have to use either the pc2700's or the pc3200's?

Keep in mind that the engine for EQ2 was developed for future technologies. You could MAYBE put a machine together that will run it smooth as glass right now but you are looking at thousands of dollars. Low frame rates will be cleared up by lowering the visuals until the price point for upgrades comes down.
Ditch the 1gig of 2700 you have and get 2gigs of the fastest ram your board will support. That will probably give you the biggest performance increase besides buying a pimped Athlon 64 board and chip.

Thanks man. I just bought a gig of pc3200 last night. It said it's compatible with pc2700 and pc2100. So, now I have 4 sticks of Ram on my motherboard each with 512mb... 2 sticks of pc2700 and 2 sticks of pc3200. But my computer is only recognizing the 2 sticks of pc2700. I double checked and everything is seated properly. Wth? Why won't my computer recognize the other 2 sticks of ram? Do I have to do something in the BIOS? I thought RAM was "plug-n-play."

Make sure the faster RAM is in the first slots.

When you install the 3200 with the 2700 it will drop all the sticks' speeds down to 2700.
That's how ram works.
As to why it's not picking them up... *shrug* that could be an infinite amount of things causing that. I couldn't begin to help there unless I had your case in front of me.

I give up. I tried putting the dimm's in every sequence possible and every time my computer recognized that I only have 1 gig of ram. I don't think that pc3200 and pc2700 are compatible after all. Maybe I'll just buy another gig of 3200 and try that out.

I just went to Gigabyte's site to download the latest drivers. They put them in zipped files, so I downloaded and unzipped them but a message pops up that says Windows cannot open the file or something. Maybe there's jumper settings to set. I'll try to find the manual for the board...

I have 2 512mb sticks of Mushkin DDR333 PC2700 (level 2) right now.
If jesus wanted you to have more ram he would have put it your PC for you.

Most BIOS upgrades need to be done from a bootable floppy or from the CMOS menu.
Updating your BIOS is most likely not going to fix your problem. You can TRY to go in to your CMOS and set the DRAM speeds to match the lower speed sticks you have but most likely, you are better off just ditching the 2700 ram you have and buying another gig of the faster ram.
