Yep... My best friend from back home has 4 pitbulls and they are the nicest dogs ever. ... I crashed at his place awhile back after a night of partying and woke up to one of them sitting on me licking my face... It was pretty gross really but they are very cool dogs. And they are the best defense against would be thiefs particularly of the black and mexican variety.

It's hard for me to believe that every pit bull who has ever attacked someone for no reason has an owner that has trained it to kill.

Are dogs in general more of hunters or scavengers by nature?

Depends on their environment, they are a victim of their surroundings just like we are.

Little ratty dogs like chihuahuas are decendants of New York sewer rats, so I think little dogs are scavangers and the big wolfy ones are Hunters.
Bye guys

That whole story was typical grade-A american media bullshit... So there are maybe 20 or 30 dog related fatalities each year in the US right? How many of those are pitbulls? and more importantly who gives a fuck? 20 people dying isn't even worth the conversation. What is worth the conversation is how stupid and crappy our media outlets are in this country and how even more stupid the masses are for eating the media's daily shit sandwich of *news*.

A lot of dogs in general that I have seen that are mean...really mean, have generally been beaten, not so much trained to attack. I've seen two trained attack dogs ever, and they were very well behaved. Few years ago I bought a dog from the humane society, and broke my own rule of not getting one while it was a puppy, for training purposes. Within 24 hours it tried to attack some people I work with, and went from sitting on my lap, to lunging at my face, then my best friend's face. It coincidentally tried to attack most times when someone was trying to take food from it. Also coincidentally, it knew the word "kennel" all too well and would hang it's head and go there when told after attempting to bite.

Something doesnt add up.
One group has nothing to gain from lying, one does.
If you can figure out which you can learn who's telling the truth.

I think you people may be blurring the line of cause and effect....
Has it ever occured to you that perhaps the people who own the pit bulls (not all of them, but probably a fair portion of pitbull owners) are the real reason they (the dogs) have such a bad reputation. I have known three people that owned pit bulls and all of them were the kind of people who would abuse a dog just to make it mean just so they can say they have the baddest dog on the block.
Dumbass_Redneck_01: hrrr I gots me a dog to pertect my properties but he wont attack them damn neegers down the street, lets see what happens when I feed the dog gunpowder.
Dumbass_Redneck_02: good idear lets tie him to a tree and poke sticks at it too.
Dumbass_Redneck_01: this here dog aint mean enough, I think Im gonna get me a pitbull instead, everone noes that a pitbull is the meanest thing on 4 legs.

The owners are generally the issue. I have known pleanty of people who have owned pitbulls for the right reasons, ie. they want a companion, they want a pet to love, spoil, and walk, and they know how to handle large strong dogs. etc. Those dogs have been fine. It is the people who own the animal for the wrong reason, or have no clue how to handle such a powerful animal that get themselves into trouble. There is no bad breed of dog, yes they all have their quirks and problem areas, but none of them are monsters.
Oh and people often have no clue wtf they are talking about when they say they saw a pitbull or were attacked by one. I have had so many people ask me if my AKITA was a pitbull, and truely think they are right in asking so. If you look at pictures of the two animals you will see there is NOTHING in common between their looks. People seem to think any muscled dog is a pitbull.

Thats a crock of shit. Any animal will turn mean after enough abuse or inbreeding. I have seen a lab that would rival any pitbull horror story you guys can come up with. The owner was a good friend of mine, she never abused the animal, it was just a product of bad breeding, which is the case with many pitbulls too. This lab had to walk around its own house muzzled constantly so it would not turn on people and rip them apart. It could not be chained in the yard because it would break its chain and chase people down. The only person it would not turn on was my friend because she was the only person it trusted. Anyone else was fair game to become lab dinner.

For true, they are some of the most loving dogs you will find when they have owners who know how to treat them. Same thing with Akitas and Rotties.

About 10 years ago I worked at a police station, and I found out Akitas are the best gaurd dogs, but they have been known to snap, and injure children.

but they have been none to snap, and injure children.
This is actually not so true. Akitas are known for being extremely loving and protective over children, to the point that they consider them their responsibility. The problem lies in people who are stupid and leave their child and their child's friend alone with the dog. Then the dog has the chance to misconstrue the children playing as one child trying to harm another, and lashes out at the child that they think is harming "their child". Also, parents have to make a game out of training the dog with their child, they need to play "dominance games" in which they help the child hold the dog in a submissive position, this takes away the dog's feeling that he is above the child in the command chain, which means the dog will not snap at the child to try and correct the childs behavior as if the child was another dog.
PS. If you want one of my puppies when I start breeding Akitas come give me lots of love and I will hook you up

Once I get my own house I want to start a breeding kennel because I love the breed so much and want to help preserve the integrity of them.

I <3 Dobbies (my fav dog breed)... IMO they are the best guard dog.
First, Kainne - dogs are natural hunters.
Secondly, for you Pit Bull lovers... you're not getting the point. Throughout history, dogs have been selectively bred to perform certain tasks. You never notice Dachshunds can't stop themselves from digging holes? That's because they've been bred to hunt and kill Badgers – hence the word “Dachshund” which means “Badger Dog” (if memory serves me right).
You think it's a matter of coincidence that Beagles make excellent tracking and hunting dogs? Or, that German Shepards are the dog of choice for Police duty?
The Pit Bull is built for destruction, period. The crushing power of their jaws is far above and beyond most other (if not all) breeds. They don't go into shock. They are tough and difficult to kill (just ask any cop who's had to damn near empty his clip to put one down). These dogs were NOT bred to be household pets – and those of you who think so need to do some frigged research.
Dogs are like guns... Yes you can own a gun, that doesn't mean you have the right (either legally or through necessity) to own a fucking fully automatic AK-47. There's a reason they are illegal. The same is true with dogs. Just because you have the right to own a dog doesn't mean you should be allowed to own something that's only purpose is to kil
99.9% of the Pit Bull owners I see down here are either A. Dumb ass rednecks – or – B. The wanna be gansta thugs who think it makes them look “bad” to have a couple of Pit Bulls on a chain.
The bred is dangerous and has absolutely ZERO place in, or around people / other animals.
Believe me, I am a dog lover... but even I can see that these dogs are no good for anyone.
