Because it's a small designated area first of all. And when I say small, I mean small in contrast to the rest of the state. Also, they just might find large amounts of fossil fuels which would reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Don't be so short-sighted. You're only looking at it from one perspective.

This is true whether its large unions for democrats or large corporations for the GOP.

The simple truth is the Government operates better and more efficiently with both parties splitting control. Reagan and Tip O'Neill kept things humming due to balance. Likewise, Clinton and Newt balanced each other out, despite the political nastiness.

When one party is in complete control, like in the time of Carter, or right now our Government lacks the balance needed to run efficiently and smartly.

The problem the DNC has is they keep putting people in positions of power like Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi who alienate the core part of this country moreso than GW and Frist.

The DNC needs to regain their 'moderate' mentality to get back in the fight. I believe the GOP could well hit 60 seats in the Senate by 2010 unless the Dems really turn their ship around, and I don't think thats healthy for America.

I agree. The Dems have strayed off course and right now have no solid identity. I've always said and agreed that one party in complete control is and was never a good thing.

There was a time when the Dems stood up for the working and middle class... when they faught for the "little guy." A time when it was clear who the GOP really stood behind... Today - we still know who the GOP stands behind as they really make no attempt to hide it... but it seems no one really knows who the DNC is standing for. I'd like to think that it's still people like us... but even now I have my doubts.

The DNC is in trouble and if they don't get their act together before 2008 we may very well see the death of a party.

I agree...the world is so overpopulated. I don't have a problem with people replacing themselves...2 kids, but when you go over that you're just ADDING. It's a tough debate, because how can you tell someone they can't have anymore children? Speaking of which...does China still have their 'one child per family' law?

A great proportion of Chinese families killed off the girl babies because boys were considered better so now there's no one to marry the boys. Probably not what they intended but it'll fix the population problem..

Except the biggest population problem area right now is India. They're over a billion people also and multiplying like flies.

Actually, it isn't the people in this (or any industrialized) country that are contributing to overpopulation. The population of white skinned people with European based lineage is steadily decreasing, since industrialzed life actually punishes you for having children (they cost so damn much), while also giving people other existential options besides merely raising kids.

Its the people in 3rd and 2nd world countries, like most of Africa, ect who are the big problem when it comes to overpopulation. They have better medicine, so children don't die like they used to, yet they have yet to curb their reproductive habbits, and still go by the "farm mentality" that more kids = more survival value... even though they're usually starving. It kind of makes me mad that the majority of overpopulation comes from an area torn by war and starvation. People can be such idiots, I swear.

Industrial populations are only going up because of immigration.

I often wonder if the only way to save the planet from being over-run is to put some sort of sterilizing agent in the water in those places. That sort of goes against my ethics though. o.O

It isnt farm mentality in Africa... Africa is a male dominated society and in Africa more children mean you are a better, "bigger" man than the guy with only 1 child or a few.

I'm seriously in disbelief that there is a mainstream religion in our country that says you can't use birth control. And that people actually obey it. It can't be real. Can it? :P
