I had a pet bat for a while when I was a kid. He tore his wing on something so I caught him and put him in a birdcage. Then mom came home and that was the end of that.

I had the something similar happen with a bird on two occasions, once at home, once at work... on both occasions I caught and released the bird outside. Even if an animal is shook up or stunned, once in non threatening natural surroundings for a bit it will come out of it and act normal.... Killing the bat after you had it outside, is sick and wrong, smashing it with a brick and taking delight in telling about how it's blood splattered is barbaric and disturbing.

My previous asinine post in this thread notwithstanding, I agree with many of the other posters here. There's been occasions when I've left the door open, and have had uninvited guests come join the party. I've always preferred to show them the exit rather than resort to Philistine brutishness.

A similar thing happened when a toddler was hiding in the office the other day.

I would have crushed it like the rodent it is inside the office building then taken the rest of the day off while a cleaning crew took care of the mess.
