Im going to agree with you brinstar. We dont give a shit about each other and it shows in everything.

but where you and i might say "$4 per paycheck? go for it", Bob Q. Teapartyasshole will go "OBUMMER BIG GUBMINT SPENDING QUIT TAKIN MA MONEY I'MA GIT MA GUN GRAARARRGGGHH" and the libertarian free-market ron paulbots would say "beep beep free market disapproves beep beep

Yea that bout sums those 2 groups up on every single issue you can think of.

Thats exactly what I said. That is why I said that it should be presented as an overall change so that if you want guards in your kids school, then all schools get it.

so everyone without kids has to buy into it too? a lot of people never have kids. your proposal sounds simple and it's "just $4 a paycheck" in theory, but no tax like that would ever be imposed because of the vast amount of people that don't have kids that would be forced to pay for it. not to mention the (i'm sure) staggering amount of people that think it's a bad idea in the first place. whereas everyone can get behind something like medicare or SSI. and those are already failing, so what the fuck do you really expect

i feel like a universal tax should benefit the people equally

it's a nice pipe dream, but your proposal makes no sense for a lot of the people that would inevitably help you fund it. terrible idea

Do I need to make a list of taxes that affect people who have no vested interest in them? Ofcourse not everyone has kids but they still pay taxes for schools

and that is kinda my point from the earlier post

"what's in it for ME" is a dead end philosophy and the US will continue its idiotic decline until we grow the fuck up and start looking at issues in terms of "what's in it for ALL OF US"

uh.....

the whole crux of your argument is presenting this issue in a light that forces people to feel the need to protect their children. not everyone has children

so you logically say "but we all pay school tax, that's the same thing". no, it isn't. you wouldn't be successful as a person and neither would anyone else here without having gone to school. i bet no one here had an armed guard at their school. we all did just fine

so what's your point?

i would refuse to support a armed-guards-in-school tax. i would never oppose a school tax. i seriously hope you can see the difference. one is necessary for the advancement of society. the other thing is just something you want

My school had uniformed officers in it at all times.

This should be mandatory in all schools. It's mind boggling to me that there are naive simpletons against this.

brinstar wrote:IMO you can boil down every single problem plaguing this country into one basic flaw: we do not give a fuck about each other. all we care about is me and mine, fuck you and yours.

Bingo.
You know, it's hilarious...
The left call the right sheeple, the right call the left sheeple, everyone caught in between are called cowards and told to pick a side, and the mighty non-left/non-right that sit at the top of the food chain in this country that pull all the strings on the marionettes of this society look down from on high and laugh... at everyone. We are all just numbers.

This argument can go on forever, because no one will back down, no one side will give an inch, and no one is willing to ever compromise on anything, and the people that actually control what happens ('cause it sure as hell isn't "We the People") perpetuate the animosity in such a way that we just keep on feeding it until it's ready to burst.

The most notorious leaders this world has ever seen have all known the same philosophy.
You keep them hungry.
You keep them sick.
You keep them weak.
You keep them uneducated.
You keep them in a position rendering them unable to fight back.
You give them false hope.
You keep them from uniting,
and keep giving them reasons to stay separated,
and when they have given in and have resigned themselves to apathy,
You win.

... and this is America.

The problem we face with firearms in this stupid country is that people are, invariably, morons.
As a whole, we are too stupid to be trusted with firearms, regardless of whatever regulations get passed and how many checks have to be cleared before you can own one.

I don't want armed guards in my kid's school because armed guards won't be trained officers in every school - they'll be glorified rent-a-cops with a chip on their shoulders. MY highschool had those, and guess what? They were assholes with egos as shiny as their fucking pistols.

Ganzo hit on something that I think is worth mentioning again here:
Ganzo wrote: I mean really I need to go through two different security verifications to pick up my kid from LifeTime Winter Camp or if she stays in kids room while i work out in my local gym, but in her school I can walk in any time and walk out with any kid without any verifications or checks.

You know why our schools have shit for security? Because they already don't give a damn about it at all. If they did, schools in every city around the country wouldn't be fighting tooth and nail for funding, they wouldn't be going broke, teachers would get paid a real wage, and the fucking council members in charge of the administrations wouldn't be giving themselves fucking raises and pats on the back whenever a little extra cash is thrown their way.
They. Don't. Care.

Are any of you really comfortable with the idea that some hickified douchenozzle getting paid $9/hour is gonna be the guy walking around with a gun in your kid's school???

Unarmed guards with a checkpoint? That's fine. In fact, I am all for that. Install metal detectors at the entrance doors. They did that at my old school earlier this decade because the drug and gang problems got so bad there, and they haven't had a single weapon come through the doors since then. Why is that not an option being talked about?

bingo. this is the right we're talking about - they'll SAY "we need highly trained police officers in every school" but what we'll get is an army of George Zimmermans

for me, the single most offensive reaction to the newtown gunjaculation spree that i saw was the way all these retardlicans praised the teachers for heroic bravery. oh, NOW you're a fan? eat shit. these are the exact same teachers you routinely refer to as greedy union thugs, glorified babysitters, and overpaid indoctrinators. the GOP's hypocrisy* literally knows no bounds.

I already mentioned that, along with the fact that Virginia Tech has its own entire police force, which was also useless. Oh, and that the Fort Hood shootings were at, you know, a military base, where I would think there might be one or two armed individuals. Just possibly, you know. Can't be sure.

Of course, that is deemed as irrelevant...

Personally, I don't like the idea of living in an armed camp, with armed guards everywhere. It's nonsense. That's JUST what this country needs: tons of TSA airport screener types with guns at every school, shopping mall, movie theater, etc, using their gun as overcompensation for their micropenii. Ugh. No. Far, far, FAR better to go after the instrument that was universally used in those crimes instead of turning the country onto Somalia, with armed bands everywhere.

Oh, and Finawin, you still ignored my question about the AR-15. What benefits does an AR-15 give you, specifically, over something like that Remington I posted, OTHER than being better at killing large numbers of people in a short amount of time?

Red my post, it was already explained. I'm tired of repeating myself because it's lost in massive novels of ignorance. (most of you know nothing about guns, and it's very obvious. Magazine restrictions? L.o.l.)

Versatility, lighter, conversion kits to shoot cheaper ammo without a whole new gun, etc

Keep focusing on the inanimate object, though. I'm going to go fight diabetes by banning sugar.

Also, we have cops in malls protecting useless junk, but not your kids? Yeah, makes perfect sense. Let's blame everything else, and not society itself for valuing materials over their children.

They're both equally ludicrous. One is something you support, so you ignore its obvious stupidity.

There are huge problems that need taken care of, but prohibition isn't going to do shit. It never has with anything else, and this is no different.

Illegal drugs, alcohol prohibition era, etc

Fix the problem, not the inanimate boogeyman.

Read up on sugar some time. It's inherent in almost every food item. Naturally. Sugar is the cause of browning meat on a bbq. Or sauteeing anything. The caramelization of any food item is due to natural sugars that are present in almost everything. That's why it's called caramelizing. When sugar reaches a certain point it browns. It's the reason there's crust on bread. All i'm saying is that the relevance isn't there

When someone kills 20 kids with a bag of sugar i'll subscribe to your weird logic

Til then i rank diabetics in the same category as people with gout. You did it to yourself! Or, you got shafted by genetics

Until then, remember i've never said anything about banning guns. I think good people with guns are the only real answer to bad guys with guns. I think marty robbins wrote a song about it called big iron.... I'm a big fan of this scenario that occured a day or two after sandy hook but got absolutely 0 mainstream media coverage. Probably because people with guns were the solution

http://www.woai.com/news/local/story/Deputy-shoots-gunman-at-San-Antonio-movie-theater/2wFsix5ntU2CDrsHjXx2kQ.cspx

But i still oppose a universal tax for armed guards at schools. It's wishful thinking. If people want it that bad they can find their own way to fund it imo. And yes i think mall cops are stupid and a waste of resources. we dont even have those in eugene anyways so i can't relate. I think our taxes are fucked up enough as is, we dont need to invent new taxes because the media decides to cover shit that's been happening since the inception of our country

Yes, because unarmed bouncers in clubs just talk
Don't be stupid.

An armed guard in a school isn't going to work anywhere near as effectively as you think it will because the very FIRST thing they do when faced with someone approaching with a weapon is to try to get that person to put the weapon down, especially if it's a kid - they never shoot first.
Someone who has suffered a psychotic break will just shoot them and keep going.
These are not sporadic acts. They're well planned out, and the shooter plans to die in the end. They will and do shoot first.

There is an equally good chance that an unarmed guard checkstation at the front entrance of the school would have prevented the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook just as well as an armed one, and it's far more likely that the armed guard would have ended up dead on the spot before he could really act.

Unarmed guards will not only cost less so that they are more likely to be be integrated, but there will be more than one at a station allowing at least one of them to immediately notify the local police.
You really think that marine dad standing watch outside his kid's school wouldn't take a bullet or two and tackle the shit out of someone to the ground and hold them there?

You apparently didn't pay attention to what I said: you aren't going to get police officers for the guards in schools. It will not happen, and I don't mean at this school or that school, I'm talking universally around the country. Some schools may get them, but a far greater number will absolutely not because they cannot in any way afford them, and you should know by now that anything of this magnitude that goes underfunded (as this most assuredly will) results in failure.
The idea that every school will get trained police officers is a pipe dream in lala land.
Here's the reality - it won't happen. They don't give a shit enough to do that.

The most laughable thing to me about this whole scenario is the fact that you'd actually trust some stranger with a gun around a kid every single day for 5-7 hours a day, yet are one of the most vocal people here regarding the stupidity of the human race.

I'm a fucking gun enthusiast you dumbass.
I'm just not a stupid one.

Like I said, refocus resources we already have in place.

Stop putting cops in malls to protect your useless junk, and put them on duty at schools. Stop paying to place cops in diners to protect drunken ghetto trash, and put them on duty at schools.

Priorities.

It's apparent the government would rather protect our junk than our kids. That needs to change before anything else.

Even as retarded as my school was, we had police in ours, they did that much right.
