My sons middle name is Cornelius. I pushed hard for it to be his first name, but the wife wouldn't have it. Probably for the best.

Anya sounds very pretty. I also like Savannah.

Yea, good one, Alex. I, of course, have no knowledge of that, and was just making fun of Mindia's dad because he (apparently) has a German sounding name.

Anyway, it's been a tradition in my family for generations, that your son's middle name is the paternal grandfather's first name. All in the name of honor. :)

I had to ask my wife for the names of these friends who cursed their kids like this. She said that she has another friend (not on facebook) that named their kid Jaxons. Yes, plural.

Kian hahah ugh. Maybe we're the weird ones.

Sadly Jackson isn't that bad. Kind of a last name but I can deal with that, then they got to Mortal Kombat the shit out of it.

i have remarkably few friends with kids. well, close friends. my bestie since kindergarten had a kiddo last week and named him reid, which is perfectly acceptable. another bestie is very early prego right now and if she has a boy she wants to name him mason because it's a family name apparently. she also likes jacob but her husband won't let her use that name because he hates twilight and he's pretty sure that's why she likes the name (which is kind of true). she has no girl names because she does not want a girl.

it's fun to talk about names.

Maybe Jacob is a lost name?

Me and my wifes name search was very lengthy for both children. We read a number of baby name books cover to cover.

I had a good friend in 2nd grade named Elizabeth and for some reason that name always stuck with me. I always knew that I wanted an Elizabeth if I ever had a girl.

Layla was just a name that we both liked. It's one of the greatest rock songs and we love the poem/story which inspired it... so... yeah.

If we have a 3rd girl we're naming her Larry and she's being raised as a dyke. I need at least one child who will work on cars and play ball with me.

I already have a set, sucker. Well my son is a bit of a pansy already. He complains when he spills stuff on his lap or gets his hands dirty. I'm not expecting much in the way of athleticism. I think my daughter at 15 months already has him beat in that department.

Similar tradition in my family, at least in one branch. Comes from the Danish side. In Scandinavia back in the day, your last name was based on your father's name. So if the father's name was Sven, his sons all had the last name of Svensen, and daughters were all Svendottir. Anyway, my great-grandfather was Canute-Michael Canutesen the 12th, so going with the name was a rather long-held tradition. Anyway, his firstborn was my grandmother, and he kinda chucked out the whole system when his son was born by naming him Robert. My grandmother kind of brought it back though, without the Canute part, by giving my dad, her firstborn, the middle name of Michael. (first name of Dean). My dad carried it on when I was born, and I got named Kevin Michael. (my younger brother is Eric Christopher) So, whenever I have my first son, if ever, his middle name WILL be Michael. No clue what to do for first name, though.

My brother's 2 kids are Donovan and Zachary.

I've heard some pretty bad ones, too. Guy I knew in college, him and his brothers were all named for dwarves in The Hobbit. His name was Thorin. I knew one lady who named her sons Elric and Elven. I felt sorry for those guys.

The worst name I ever knew wasn't bad in and of itself, but her parents neglected to consider their last name when picking a name for her. Her name was, and I shit you not: Lisa Beaver. (say it out loud and it will make sense.) (don't buy, lease!)
