Reason 1)
People that smoke and know it's bad want to do drugs and want be legal. You want to get high, whether you admit it or not, you're getting high. If pot were legal you'd be smokeing that.
Reason 2)
You're to immature to decide on your own so you must go with the "majority" (clic), and/or got hooked and don't have the self consitution to stop (e.g. you are too weak, yes too weak to stop).
Reason 3)
You like to "steal" time and money aware from your workplace / life. By smokeing you get an extra weeks vacation at work (roughly and of course this means your workplace allows you to smoke in or out of doors). Let alone the time you steal from yourself (e.g shortens life)
Reason 4)
You are "fighting the man", this is your Alamo, you feel you need to make a stand on something and even if you don't "like" smokeing this is your last stand. The man is any authority figure.
Reason 5)
You don't care about the harm it does and can "make up your own mind".
Folks smoke for one or more of the reasons above but I challenge ANY smoker to step completely outside of those reasons. You may have more (eg. 6, 7, 8) but I know for a FACT I can place ANY smoker in one of the 5 buckets.
You forgot 6) Addiction. Most people smoke for that reason. Yeah I do enjoy smoking. I enjoy it like any drug addict enjoys his drug when he is endulging his addiction. The other reasons you stated MAY be reasons that people start, but there's a bunch of reasons why people start and this is nothing new. Cong on making yourself look like a bigot though and trying to show your superiority over us lowly smokers.

I didn't miss your 6, I justed put that into the "2" bucket:
and/or got hooked and don't have the self consitution to stop (e.g. you are too weak, yes too weak to stop)
Some folks can do any drug for as long as they want and have the ability to stop it. It is a matter of "will" and how strong yours is.
I closet smoked in high school, then afterward smoked pretty regularly maybe 3/4's a pack a day for rougly a year after school. Then one day, for no particular reason, I said, WTF am I doing this for, straight up and quit. Was it hard, yeah, some, I guess. Point is for many it is VERY hard, near impossible to quit, I'm only left to assume it is because they can't control themselves (e.g addiction, weak).
And yeah, to a point I'm using weak as a flame / challenge (e.g. prove your not weak).

Yep. Any publicity can be good publicity.
You tell someone enough times not to do something and keep showing them exactly what they should not be doing... and they will eventually try it.
Its like our drug war. We have more users than anyone else, including the countries who have legalized personal use.

I coulda easily quit after a year, but try 11. It's hard to kick because 1) honestly I don't want to, and 2) I use it to handle a lot of stress. I use that as my cop out but hey, it works. I will eventually (probably in the next couple of weeks) try again to quit.

.
Let's start a big list of all the things that make people less of a person.
1) Making broad generalizations about a topic you know nothing about on the interwebz.
2) Having the audacity to call others out on their character flaws when you are a judgemental, prejudiced, holier-than-thou monkey molester.
There's just a start. Feel free to add~

I'm pretty sure everyone that smokes at work, unless they're their own boss, smokes during break time, not on some magical "smoker's vacation time," hahahah
You forgot option 6) Some people aren't afraid of dying early and they'd hate themselves if they were one of the "I'd do that but it could kill me 25 years from now..." people.
But I'm sure you'll just call me a blind addict... not somebody who's enjoying life.

Yep, smoking is cool no doubt. Told ya before why I quit lemme tell how I quit, might make no sense to some of yas might help someone.
After my Dad's veiwing I was pretty freaked, convinced that I'd go out the same horrible, painful way. I'm tellin ya, lung disease is bad news, do yourself a favor, get hit by a train it's alot more peaceful.
At any rate after my Dad passed, I started smoking in my bathroom, in front of the mirror. Chain smokin em lookin into the mirror. Tryin out my best James Dean, but after awhile I saw what I was. Just another junkie with a burning paper tube of tobacco in his mouth. Only took me three days, your mileage may vary. Go look at yourself in the mirror.
It don't matter the health risks, or the way it makes you feel or that it's shunned by society...go to your bathroom mirror and light em up, and force yourself to watch. Smoking, is not cool. It doesn't look cool, after 40 years you sure as hell aren't gonna feel cool, and most of all when you die of lung disease nobodies gonna say you were cool because you smoked.
There are many vices in this great wide world, this is definately one you can pass on. It's pedestrian, it's low class, and it will kill you before your time. Don't smoke.

This is the internet. Names don't have sexual orientation.

Just because some of his posts are retarded, you shouldn't assume he is a chick.

lol am i a princess? where did that come from?
if you'd read any of MY posts, you'd know i'm not really all that girly~
at any rate, i think we just don't frequent many of the same parts of the board. i don't comment in the current affairs forum very often, and we don't see much of you in EE or the coffee shop. my limited experience with your posts left no real clue as to your gender. nothin' personal, man. i apologize! there are plenty of other people who get the same thing--talk to trielelvan about how many people are shocked to find out that she's a chick.

Was a lame joke only the geeks will get. I can pretty much tell from your demeanor that you've most likely been a woman for a long time. Trielelvan never fooled me and thats no worries.
No apologise needed here. Sorry I don't frequent the coffee shop, frankly I just can't find the time. My bad.
Yep Garg, driving heavy trucks is not a game of strength, it's a game of skill. I've know many women that could outdrive a man anyday.
Anyways leah, what was your point? Smoking is good? Bad? Indifferent?
