9-5 by my count.

But I'd hold on to a two decade old dynasty if my team performed as good as yours did for the last 15 years.

9?

there's no team in the league that has 9 cups

detroit has 10

toronto 13

montreal 24 (i think)

and if it's detroit you mean, you can heckle when Edmonton has a 40+ year dryspell like detroit~

if you count when it was the challenge cup in the late 1800s to early 1900s, the ottawa senators have won it 9 times

ok, so instead of a 40 year drought, call it 80+

We've been competitive for the last 5 or 6 years.

How's your 1st place losing team holding up in the off season?

looking at the score card, we got something in return for our defenseman, unlike the sens

We were able to retain one FA so far. That's got you beat by 1.

Trade today:

Blackhawks get right wing Martin Havlat and center Bryan Smolinski from Ottawa.

Senators get defenseman Michal Barinka and 2008 second-round pick from Chicago. They also get defenseman Tom Preissing and prospect Josh Hennessy from the San Jose.

Sharks get center Mark Bell from Chicago.

ottawa should have made that move earlier to free up cap room, to try and sign chara

Unless Bell is something REALLY special, I don't see how that deal makes sense for the Sharks.

Someone know something about Bell that would make this make sense?

bell is a grinder with a nice scoring touch, keep in mind he was in the blackhole of hockey called chicago for all of his career so far. I remember him playing junior and he was a good one. Doesn't make too much sense to me with the sharks lack of depth on d though.

The sens didn't save much in the way of cap space really, havlat wasn't signed, so they only unloaded smolinski who was making a decent pay day but not anything insane by today's NHL standards. I don't much like what muckler is doing, but i do find it funny that he's pillaged the farm team over the last few years to pick up guys like arnasson, bondra, vrada and let those guys walk only to trade havlat for spare parts (although that defenseman from the sharks looks to be pretty decent and well priced)

The amount of money teams are paying players this off season is just sick, guys like hall gill don't belong in the league, let alone making multi-millions

The Sharks think that they need tough guys that can skate and play defense since they got pushed around by the Oilers last Series. That's why they signed Grier, Brown, and traded for Bell.

This deal stinks.

Mike Grier is a pretty solid 2nd/3rd line winger who can kill penalties and chip in the occassional goal

he's a good fit for pretty much any team imo

if i were a fan of just about any team, I would be asking my GM, why didn't we go out and get havlat if thats all the sens were asking for

Yea, and if I were a fan of the sens I would be saying, why is that all we got for Havlat?

What did the Sharks offered for Havlat that Ottawa turned down?
