They're pretty good, just not 100% perfect. Some parts will get choppy if there's lots of background stuff going on.
xboxscene should have all the infoz for PS1 emulators.

the one harrison hooked me up with ePSXe for the pc works really well for playstation emulation (it'll even just play the discs, or the roms you've backed up
ps, FF3 is probably the best of the Final Fantasy series

i mean original FF3 for nes
i've played thru the translated no-sound rom, and it was fantastic
i can't imagine how fucking good the upscale DS version is
