agreed, religion has zero place in government

to add to tikker's point, dubya is also rich. does that mean the majority of americans are wealthy? fuck no.

if being president had anything to do with representing the majority, we'd see schoolteachers and truck drivers and accountants running for office.

no, wealthy politicians have priced everyone else out of the race such that the only ones who can afford to run for office are the very ones that are out of touch with the concerns of working schmoes like you and me. it's a setup through and through.

Yeah, exactly. I bet not a single one of those dipshits has ever had their hands dirty or had to break a sweat. Mommy and Daddy prolly put them through law school (where they prolly didnt have to do shit) and have no clue what it means to be a normal person

I believe that a president should represent the moral values of the majority. I'm certain that the majority of Americans don't hold as strong Christian morals and values as I do (not saying that mine are better), but the majority of Americans do claim to be Christians and most probably hold up Christian morals and values to an extent.

Morality and ethics don't have a god damn thing to do with religion. Sure, religion can introduce you to moral values of others, but when it comes down to it, every individual will always create their own principles to live by, and for the vast majority of people, those principles tend to be circumstantial.

Morality should come from genuine respect for life, not from religion. It shouldn't be thought of as a set of divine guidelines.

I think that pretty much all you need in order to be a moral person is to understand, agree with, and try to live, this:
"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others."

Wiccanism puts it like this:

"And it harm none, do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law". (Crowley stole it and removed the first part, which makes a HUGE difference)

Put in more modern english, it basically says: Do what you like, so long as no one else gets hurt by your actions.

Works for me...

Morality has fuck all to do with religion. I'm so tired of superior "Christians" feeling as if everyone who doesn't believe as they do is some rutting in the street, backstabbing, murdering piece of crap. I was brought up as a Christian; currently my beliefs are not exactly in line with my childhood teachings. That does not make me less moral. If people live their lives in a manner designed to hurt no one and do the best they can to live a good fulfilling life, what right does anyone have to question their morality. The problem with this country is religion. Separation of Church and State is given lip service but way to many Christians determine what goes on in this country, what's going to be allowed and how things are going to get taken care of. I'm so tired of that crap. /rant off.

I have always been taught that there is a fundamental difference between "christians" and "catholics" and the Catholics tend to be the ones that believe as Haylo stated. Also Islamics also tend to believe the same way. Hense the "infidel".

Um, more like the other way around. Crowley was around way before Wicca was.

Crowley's Do What Thou Wilt also isn't a moral statement to begin with anyways.

Modern wiccanism takes stuff from traditions going back a very very long time. I know of sects that at least claim to be practicing rites preserved and handed down person to person from pre-christian days in England. Whether you believe that or not is up to you, I haven't seen proof one way or the other for it. I do know that that statement is quite old though, and what I was told is that Crowley had appropriated it and modified it to allow himself completely free license. That is what he and his followers believed in, that whatever they wanted to do was right and good, regardless of what harm it caused. (Crowley was something of a sociopath).
