guess what chester

you have actual canadians here who are arguing with you, jeje

is our health care system perfect? hell no

do you have useless flesh bags here who fuck the system, and make it worse for legit problems? yes

no one will dispute that

but no matter what, I can go to a hospital and get treated for a problem without being asked if I can afford it first

Diekan wrote:I don't know where you got that, but it has everything to do with huge waiting lists and it is not true that the sickest are seen first. I've read many articles of people DYING after having been diagnosed with cancer because they had to wait over a year to be seen.

Again with the waiting lists. You know why the waiting lists are long? Because people who need care and couldn't otherwise afford it are "clogging things up". I suppose you'd rather the weak just die quietly.

In retrospect, I have to admit that Palin really hurt McCain’s chances of being elected.

We expect our “leaders” to present themselves as articulate, intelligent professionals. In many ways I think we “expect” our leaders to be “better than us” – if that makes any sense. What I am getting at is, I don’t want someone who resembles an “average person” holding the office of Vice President.

She projected herself as too much like us. Too many “You betcha’s,” “Joe Six Pack” references – which I personally thought was every bit as insulting to the American voter as Obama’s comments about Pennsylvanians.

I don’t want a soccer mom serving as VP. I “expect” someone holding that position to be more along the lines of a “Harvard Lawyer.”

If she runs for president in 2012 and if she gets the nomination for the ticket – the GOP will get obliterated worse than they just did.

The irony of your last statement is that you didn't support Obama, who *IS* a Harvard Lawyer.... Specializing in Constitutional law, no less...

I didn't support Obama because of his agenda. I'm still a big fan of the free market / small government / more power to the states / lower taxes / drill-here-and-now / anti-UN / fewer social programs school of thought. Pretty much opposite of Obama's philosophies.

It's because it works - as long as there are checks and balances in place to keep the "Enrons / Mortgage Crisis" from happening. Let me rephrase that... so long as the checks and balances are ENFORCED. We didn't grow from a collection of settlers to the most powerful, prosperous country in the world by chance. It's not a matter of coincidence we have the best colleges in the world, the highest standard of living, the highest paying jobs, the best doctors and hospitals... etc. It's because capitalism WORKS.

The problem isn't that it's broken - it's the lack of action by the government to enforce existing laws.

Most recent list I can find is from 2004, and is as follows:

1. Norway
2. Sweden
3. Canada
4. Belgium
5. Australia
6. United States
7. Iceland
8. Netherlands
9. Japan
10. Finland

Note that every one of the top 5 has some form of nationalized health care...

If you're talking about highest average personal income, Switzerland beats everyone.

next time, please use more improperly used quotation marks for "emphasis" . . . i think you missed a couple of places.
