It's true. That's been a tradition in my family for at least 4 generations. If we have a son, we'll probably name him Landen Wilhelm. Wilhelm, being my dad's name. My dad's middle name is Frederick, which was my Great-Grandfather's first name. My middle name is Henry, which was my Grandfather's first name. A lot of people do that same tradition.

There's actually a middle name tradition in my family as well. As a bit of background, way back when the tradition among Scandinavians of various stripes was that your last name was based on your father's name, and your sex. So, if you were the son of Anders, your last name was Andersen (or Anderson). Son of John, you were Johnsen (or Johnson). (yeah, that's where those last names originated). Daughter of Anders would be Andersdottir, and of course she'd lose that last name when she got married.

Anyway, my great grandfather was from Denmark, and was Canute Michael Canutesen the 13th. (So, the family had been passing on the name for a LONG time.) He finally broke the tradition when he named his son Robert. (my great-uncle). When his daughter (my grandmother) and my grandfather had their firstborn son though, they returned somewhat to the tradition, and so my dad was named Dean Michael. My parents continued it as well, and so I was Kevin Michael. If I ever have kids, my firstborn son will be <something> Michael as well.

Yeah, I understand the honoring-your-family-with-middle-names thing. I just thought it was odd she opened with that statement, and then goes on to talk about how one of her kids is named in honor in Michael Jackson, and another was named after a character in the movie Splash.

Hey Gyps, another '83 Ashley here. I know how annoying being Ashley W. (heh we also had that in common, weird) can be.
Having said that, I wasnt about to name our children something completely fucked up and spelled like hell.

Our daughter is named Hailey Elizabeth (Elizabeth after Gids mom and Hailey because it sounded pretty).
Our son is Jackson Cole. (Jackson after Gids dad "Jack" and Cole after my dad and Papa's middle name).

I think that giving your kid some weird name or weird spelled name is just going to cause a world of tears when they get home from school, bullies were picking on them and their easy to manipulate name.

Last night, in a moment of drunken clarity, I realized that while Gid's dad probably had a rough time with his name Jack Medoff (commonly mispronounced as Me-doff), I thought I had spared our son by adding letters, when really, I just made his name as more of an action. Thank god for nicknames. He goes by JJ.

I had a kid on the ski team I coach last year named Ranger Walker. He still wasnt old enough I guess to realize why I picked at him hehe. I called him TR, for Texas Ranger. What cruel parents, but he was like that ki din the video Mindia posted, he was about 12 or 13 and was waaaay too smart

We just had our 20-week ultrasound. It's a girl :P So, we went to Old Navy and bought a bunch of girl outfits. All outfits and shoes were on sale for 5 bucks. Good deal.

congrats on the girl. I seem to be a boy mom...despite my best efforts at the girl thing, vene failed me! maybe in the future but not crossing my fingers!

We also went ring shopping (for me) this weekend. I found a $400+ ring I saw at 2 different mall jewelers for $99 on this site lol. This is my fave ring, so we just ordered it. :P

I've heard nothing but good things about tungsten rings myself; the only tricky thing is that they cannot be resized, so you may end up having to get a new one at some point.

Yeah, that's what the sales rep told us yesterday. But for 99 bucks, it wouldn't be a big deal replacing it if it came down to that. I tried on the 7mm ring and it was just a little too wide for me. The 6mm should be perfect.

Alexis is a pretty name but if you are thinking it's to popular you could use it as a middle even.

We are doing well. Our oldest just turned 3 and our youngest will be 1 at the end of April. Enrolled Braysen in preschool for next fall and can't believe where the time went!!! I am back to school for nursing, long adventure ahead with having the kiddos + work but oh well. Vene is a workaholic but guess that's why he makes the big bucks. (he's still a gaming crack head though part-time!)
