Ginz I think what folks are trying to convey is you can't possibly know, it would be impossible, 100% impossible for you to KNOW.

It would be like me saying, I know what it's like to be you, or I know what it will be like to go skydiving or some other thing I've never experienced.

You can say and think what you what, I don't see folks trying to argue here more of just saying you don't really have any idea. I get on a soap box re: this because it's a pet-peeve of sorts, the best one is this, when someone says

"I understand where you're coming from"

That would be impossible for you can never be me.

Just as a snip, for example, prior to having kids, I never really had a problem watching shows or YouTube clips of folks dong stupid shit, breaking their legs, or movies where kids may get hurt, or things like rape, etc, never had an issue watching any of that. After my kids got to be around 2ish, I found that some of that stuff actually began to upset me to where I wouldn't even want to watch. Hell there some videos on AFV that I don't care to watch now. I know that sounds really weird or crazy but I can tell you I would never had guessed that result would have occurred by me becoming "Dad".

Like what others have said, I don't know you can put it into words.

No Ginz. I don't think you get it. Things will CHANGE. They won't change, they'll CHANGE. Pay attention sir.

I do get annoyed by the whole "I've been there" superiority complex that people get in these situations myself.

I don't know if you can begin to understand, Ginz. I mean, you're going to have to buy so many clothes. So, many, clothes. You don't get it, man. Seriously, so many clothes - and you have to fold them, too. Your grocery bill is going to go up too - do you understand? It'll go up. Way up.

Haha, exactly. And this kid already has four times as many clothes as me. I have to screen each article of clothing so that she's not dressed in shirts that say "my mom is hotter than yours" or "future milf".

Ok, maybe I'm just weak. Maybe people's perception of me being the good person I've fought my whole life to be means more to me than I thought. I don't know. I need an outside perspective.

Am I stupid for taking to heart her spreading shit about me like being a psychotic, emotionally abusive, pathological liar throughout the entire relationship?

I know it isn't true.
The people who hung out with us all the time know it isn't true.
It's the people who know me but not enough about me to laugh at her for saying it.
There's even some people who've been convinced by her that all the good she saw was just a show by me and I was different "behind closed doors", or her putting on a smile.

That shit hurts. I have a hard time talking to my friends about it because they don't discuss things. They just take my side blindly and that isn't what I need.

I'm over what she did. I really am. I can handle that now, and I was even beginning to feel bad for her because I know in the end she's a victim, again. Now I'm just going back to "nerd rage". I was going to leave her boyfriend alone, but he's fucking BEGGING for it, literally. I need to get the fuck out of this place.

My friend's younger brother goes to LSU and offered me a couch to stay on down in Louisiana while he got me a job and shit to get on my feet, away from here. It's tempting. I can't fucking stay in this shithole. The only thing keeping me here right now is my mother, and I think she'd understand.

broseph sometimes things happen that give you the opportunity to take a big step in a new direction. sometimes they're awesome things that open the door, and sometimes they're awful

i can't begin to offer any useful advice because (ironically, as stated above in the baby drama) i don't know what it's like to be in your shoes, but the opportunity to go to louisiana and start fresh might be the delicious ice cream sundae you can enjoy after choking down this shit sandwich

Well, I can see the allure of getting out of there, but don't let yourself be DRIVEN out, if that makes any sense.

Also, what would leaving do to your aspirations to get into the army? Also, since the army is giving you such crap about getting in, have you thought about trying one of the other services? I am 100% sure the Marines could use combat medics, and I strongly doubt the Navy or Air Force would object to someone joining to go down the medical track. Each service also has its own doctors they use, so it's entirely possible that going to a different service would completely bypass your difficulties with the Army.

Since joining the military seems to be what you really want to do, why not pursue one of those other services, rather than relocate your entire life to a couch in Louisiana? (which isn't exactly swimming in prosperity at the moment)

I can do the same thing down there. It's just going to take time regardless of where. Time spent here surrounded by shitbags and having to hear about them...

I haven't given up on it, and don't plan on it.

just tell the doctors your parents will pay and they'll be like "OH, ok. in that case, yadda yadda yadda"

even if they won't pay or even help you out, it'll help you get in to see a doctor quicker

with the horrible healthcare system we have now, if you don't have insurance and you tell them that and don't immediately (think same breath) tell them your plan to pay for it, they won't listen to you or care at all

Be careful about changing residency. Sometimes immediately after moving to a new state, you'll lose any benefits you had registered for and obtained. Though in Louisiana there might be quicker opportunities for that.

Other than that, spending the fall/winter/spring there might not be a bad idea. Plenty of work to be found to pass the time and lots of drinks & gators.

i agree w/ 10sun. if someone offered me a couch in another state i'd probably up and leave immediately. if it makes you feel any better, you're not the only one completely tired and done with where they live

tough titty said the kitty but the milk's still good? eye for an eye - man, I watched that movie 98275982475 times when I was like 12.

harrison, almost everything that seems to have a negative impact on your life results directly from where you are - a change of pace would probably do you good. been there, done that, and 6 years later I quite miss home and really appreciate going back. sometimes when you're stagnant and nothing seems to improve for the better, the only thing you can do is take that leap. I wouldn't necessarily go there with the idea that you need to get away from the current situation - that means she wins and she got the better of you. I'd say you need to go there just for a chance at self-reflection and moving past the brick wall that's stood in your way the past years.

My mom
My grandmother
Army bullshit
Doctors bullshit
Ex Girlfriend in a legitimately dangerous relationship now

I'm beginning to think the stress has brought back my stomach problems of all fucking things to boot. (In the past few days I've gotten that oh so pleasant wrenching stabbing pain in my chest I remember so well, at least once a day.)

If there was time between them I think I could handle them. Not all at once. I know it's just going to get worse, too. It always does.

I don't know. I'm just tired. I really am. Not just physically tired because of lack of sleep. I'm just flat-out, completely, exhausted from keeping this up.

the legitimately dangerous relationship thing is on her own accord, and it's not your responsibility to worry about that. she's a big girl and made her own choice - if you keep yourself open to support her, you're going to be trampled 500 more times before she's done.

get out of that shithole and focus on yourself. just make sure you have enough freedom to visit your mom if necessary due to her sickness. you're never going to get out of your seemingly endless life slump if you don't change the scenery. something has to give.
