I guess I didn't say that very clearly. The vast majority of the beginning players in FoH had level 50 characters in beta. They restarted at 1 but almost all of them were high levels in beta.

Cool he played a ranger, \m/ Surefall Glade \m/

It was the other guy that was the Paladin

I can't remember his name atm tho, but he also bolted for Sigil iirc

Tikker wrote:success in EQ did require a certian amount of skill, but 90% of what made guilds successful was (like Taxx said) the time you put in, and the attention to detail

And jirig, you needed to see what it was like prior to Xserver chat

Pre-Xserver, someone would kill a mob, and it'd take a couple of weeks before the next guild would figure it out

now, guildX kills mob_01 and the next 25 guilds kill it within a day or 2

there's no comparison to pre-luclin, and post luclin

But if you want the best example, just look at the 1st seru kill

FoH got him like a month before anyone else

FoH was told the serubane recipe in beta, and the quest to find the recipe never ended up making it into the game (still not there afaik)

Actually we in CT killed Seru first on nameless and we did it without having anyone with bane the first time i believe. And after that we did it 4-5 times before anyone else killed it with having a total of 2 people baned. So really the bane didnt do much i mean we had a 3 hour kill on seru where he got chealed through the walls like 300 times . I still pity Denzimir and Udainn for dropping rods for hours upon hours never actually getting to do any damage.

You killed Seru like 4-5 months after 15-20 other guilds had been killing him.
there's no comparison to being the 27859028524905th guild to kill a mob and the 1st serverwide to kill a mob

Well, if the guild that is the 27859028524905th to do it did it without dev help it`s more worthwhile than the first that essentially did it on God Mode since they had insider info.

Got insider info, then your accomplishment was meaningless, like so many early EQ guilds kills were.

That didn't seem to stop LoS from bragging about server first after 209485028350298 guilds had done it.

we generally weren't the 209485028350298th guild to kill a mob when we did it, but that's a bit off topic

serverwide > individual server (generally)

Neither is worth anything, except to prepubescent dudes bragging around D&D tabletop games in hopes of getting the phone number of the hairy, fat chick tabletop gaming with them.

You only say that becuase you were never involved in any firsts~

Arguing about what it's worth is dumb tho

If you're in a guild, and your goal is to compete for something, accomplishing it is fun, and worth the effort expended

It's worth exactly as much as the fun you derive playing eq/eq2/wow/whatever in whatever playstyle you prefer

Well... as a former member of LoS, I'm quite proud of what I accomplished in the time I was there. I don't brag about any of it, but that sense of pride isn't necessarily a bad thing. It made my time in EQ that much more enjoyable.

I wasn't pissed that we weren't the first guild serverwide to beat Barxt or Noqufiel or Zun'Muram... but regardless, I was proud to be apart of those and the multitude of other killings we participated in as a guild.

Lyion, you weren't at that AoW kill with LoS and Shock of Swords?

For some reason I thought you were ~

The Light Warriors (obviously) never had a first. Our sense of pride was in accomplishing a goal that we had set for ourselves as a team.

Fun takes many forms.

I don't think anyone is arguing that.

I used to run into blackburrow, aggro every mob in the zone, then dropp them all with one PB AE. It accomplishes nothing...but it was definitely fun :)

That AOW kill is one that can't be tarnished, as there was obviously zero batphone, and no one else even came close to him when we killed him. Hell, they changed the rules of the game after that, heh. The time we killed him with PC tanking is just as big a deal, despite the fact that FOH did it on the exact same day within 20 minutes of us. Of all the stuff I ever did in EQ, those velious-era kills of the AOW are the events I'm most proud of, geekish as that may be, since they were something unique, or nearly so.

AoW kill was the pinnacle of my EQ career.

Velious was the best expansion ever released in my opinion.

the funny thing I learned at the guild summit thing

In SOE's mind (read bank account), Velious was their least successful expansion
Legacy of Ykesha was the most successful

The funny part was when Smedley made the 1st statement, the whole crowd kinda started grumbled

when he said the 2nd part, every shouted "FOR THE BANK SLOTS"

They also made stupid statements like "The majority of active characters are between levels 30 and 50"

When asked if they took into account that most people with lvl 65 characters have 2-6 lvl 30-50 twinks they kind of just got shell shocked, and admitted they hadn't considered that

Aside from that tangeant, the only point I was trying to make out of the previous one was that batphone has the biggest impact on guilds killing stuff 1st serverwide

Velious was SOOO much better than Luclin or Kunark its not even close.

I never did play PoP GoD or OoW. But Velious was damn fun, till there were like 6 guilds all caught up to the end game (as of that date) and when they took Vulak out.. it kinda killed the end game.

I thought being one of the 2 warriors outside of LoS who had their epic (back in the day when Gnazo and i were indirectly racing for first non LoS warrior with epic) was awsome :)

I was there for the AoW kill with tanks. Well kinda i kept LDing comingand coming back heh.

IMO first either way is fun. First warrior on nameless to have the AoW bow, 2nd Queen whatsherface in chardok kill, 2nd (maybe 3rd not sure) Tormax kill, 1st level 60 half elf warrior on nameless.

I think Shock of swords was first to see seru on nameless (like be in his chamber) that i am not sure of either

either way.. server wide is kinda hard to do.. i was happy enough with 2nds hehe

I dunno

I really liked Kunark the best out of all the expansions, with Velious a close second

Mostly because that's when I rerolled a rogue, just to experience the new lowbie dungeons (kurns, dalnir, nurga, droga, etc)

ToFS is the best zone ever tho~

well kunark was 2nd imo.

ack droga i hated that place...

The idea and the areas of Kunark i think were better (overall)

but Velious had that dwarf dragon giant story which i liked.

Tikker.. i never went to ToFS EVER. hehe wish i had i heard it was cool

BTW how is WoW going?
