One is legal. One is illegal. If pot was legal I believe its rehab numbers would be similar.
I'd rather not legalize enough drugs so that we end having some of the drug crises that parts of Europe are going thorugh.
for those 3 million children it's illegal
also you're omitting something important here:
alcohol is physically addicting, marijuana is not.
Here's a quote taken from
http://www.drugfreeatlast.com/Kids-marijuana.htmlTetrahydrocannabinol,is the main, active ingredient in marijuana and it temporarily alters brain functioning that affects sensory perception, reflexes, and coordination. Because it changes the way people see, hear, and feel, it can impair judgment. Driving under the influence of marijuana is extremely dangerous. The fact that many teens smoke marijuana while they are drinking alcohol makes driving even more lethal.
Marijuana is physically addicting. Each year, 100,000 people in the United States alone are treated for marijuana dependence. Heavy marijuana smokers who quit smoking may experience the same symptoms of withdrawal as users of nicotine or other drugs.
Mindia, check the research Brinstar is using. MARIJUANA is less addicting than ALCOHOL. That is a FACT.
Now, fucking discuss things rationally or I'll Rust you.

Urm, I'm not gonna trust a site called drugfreeatlast as a particularly reliable source.
The vast majority of sources I've read, and personal experience, say that pot is not physically addictive. Those people going into rehab are weak willed, similar to those who become addicted to gambling.
In regards to driving stoned, from an objective standpoint it is not as dangerous as driving drunk - mostly because it tends to make the driver hyper-alert. However, it is still irresponsible and moronic to drive under the influence of anything, and if pot were to be made illegal I would hope harsh DUI laws that include pot would be made along with it.

Also, the people that go into rehab are usually court ordered as part of a sentencing reduction program.

It could be argued you are weak willed for using Drugs in the first place.
Addiction is not a matter of 'will', its a disease.

A lot of people experiment and/or hang out with the "wrong crowd" for a while before they finally figure out the self-destructiveness of what they're doing.

Marijuana is bad because it makes you paranoid and lazy.
Smoke in moderation and those two things won't happen to you, and you can just enjoy your laid back feeling.
Start looking for the way to easy street, and you smoke too much.

You can also find websites that claim marijuana has positive qualities too. Intelligent people don't fall for that propaganda though. We know pot is bad for you. The argument for marijuana is ridiculous and asinine, and is just trying to shoe-in justifications and excuses for its use. Yes, it can help aids patients get the munchies.

yeah i'm not saying it has positive qualities either, i let doctors say things like that
when used safely and in moderation it is completely harmless, and the fact that it is illegal only serves to waste law enforcement man-hours that IMHO could be better spent hunting meth labs or kiddie porn distributors

The addictive aspect of pot is strictly social. You have to break ties with all your friends to quit. Very hard to do indeed.
The most powerful addiction is peer pressure.

Actually, pot has a number of medical uses. If it did not, *WHY* then would doctors be free to prescribe synthetic THC, which is the active ingredient of pot? The problem is, in capsule form it is much harder to moderate the dose, and if you can't keep anything down anyway, like many cancer patients on chemo experience, the pill you take to help appetite is going to come right back up before it can generate any effect.
One of the main reasons pot is still illegal are the drug companies. They can patent a synthetic version of THC and sell it for whatever they like, but they cannot patent a plant. Some of the biggest dollar amounts going into the coffers of the anti-pot groups come from drug industry lobbyists, whose companies wish to maintain their monopolies.

lol, that reminds me of a fun joke I did in school with someone lots of times:
(in really really loud voices)
Me: HEY MIKE, I HAVE AN IDEA
Mike: WHATS YOUR IDEA
Me: LETS GO BUILD A METH LAB IN MY BASEMENT.
Mike: I DONT KNOW...
Me: CMON...
WHAT COULD GO WRONG!?

I've never had a problem with friends pressuring me when I don't feel like smoking, I'll just say no thanks and pass it right along.

I am the same way, it's just that some people can't do that.

It's not necessarily that they are pressuring you to do it. As in, they offer and you say no and they give you shit for it. I'm sure that is how it is with a lot of people, though-which is just your own freaking fault for being weak and/or retarded for caring in the first place. And that kind of peer pressure goes for beer, cigarettes, little kids being mean to animals...etc...
I guess what I meant (and thought labbats was getting at) was that with potsmokers, it is their lifestyle. It's a part of their daily routine, and if you don't get away from that yourself, it's harder to stop. My boyfriend did the wake and bake until we moved in together. He woke up one morning and started to smoke a bowl, and I"m like, "what are you doing. We drink coffee in the morning."

my friend josh was student teaching one day and the kids were quietly reading from their books and he happened to look out the window
some guy burst out of the front door of the house across the street, ON FIRE, dove into the front yard and rolled around to put the flames out
a few seconds later there was a muffled BOOOM sound and the basement windows blew out and smoke started pour out of the window wells
so not only did he get LIT ON FIRE, but his basement blew up and he went to jail and got punished extra hard for doing this so close to a grade school
don't make meth labs in your basement, kids

Marijuana is the best! Simply because it made Ricky Williams leave. So now the Patriots have almost NO competition to win the division. Can you say 3-peat?

Weed is definitely habit forming but it's not physically addicting.

No, not owned. Sorry, that statement is a load of crap. Find me anywhere the empirical evidence proving this? People are treated for Marijuana addiction because each year, at LEAST 100,000 idiots are born. There is not one chemical in marijuana that has been PROVEN beyond the shadow of a doubt to be physically addictive. None.
Statements, like the one in your quote are biased at best. That is like saying:
- People in Japan drink green tea an average of 3 times a day.
- People in Japan rarely get cancer.
= therefore: Drinking green tea will prevent you from getting cancer.
