The last half was 48 mins and 30 seconds. so It was more like 15.

BERLIN (AFP) - From Mogadishu to Kabul to Baghdad, watching the World Cup is proving to be bad for your health.

Sometimes it's fatal.

Hardline Islamic courts in the Somali capital have banned people from watching the action in Germany on television believing it to be against Muslim teaching.

In a brief but violent protest, two people were killed as gunmen, reportedly allied to the Joint Islamic Courts, forced three cinema halls to shut and warned football lovers against watching the matches which were being relayed through satellite.

"The Islamic courts have ordered the closure of three cinema halls," said Sukahola resident Abdulaziz Hanad.

"They want to make sure that nobody in Mogadishu watches the World Cup."

In war-torn Baghdad, many Iraqis feared they would miss out on the spectacle as the country's public broadcaster had no retransmission rights and the cost of subscriptions are beyond the means of many.

"I can't buy a decoder for the Arab channel that is showing all the matches," said student Mustafa Abdel Sattar.

For 175 dollars (135 euros), subscribers receive a special package that includes all 64 matches broadcast by the ART channel.

In Afghanistan, the 10,000-strong NATO force can watch the games on cinema-style screens at the the International Security Assistance Force headquarters (ISAF) in Kabul.

German soldiers were to first to test-run the facility by watching their team's 4-2 win over Costa Rica on Friday 5,000 kilometres (3,000 miles) from where the match was being played in Munich.

They were some of the 200 NATO soldiers -- German, French, British, Macedonian, Turkish and Swiss -- who gathered in the Wolves' Den bar in Camp Warehouse to watch a live transmission of the match.

It's a scenario which would have been impossible five years ago when the Taliban banned television and initially outlawed football.

They relented, but insisted that players wore trousers and sleeves and ordered them to stop for prayers during matches.

Supporters were forbidden to cheer.

On Indonesia's Java island, where 5,800 people died in May's earthquake, locals were also trying to get access to World Cup television coverage.

Football fan Faturohman said the prospect of missing out on the tournament would be painful.

"I'm ruined. The electricity in this area is only enough for lights. We can't watch TV and besides that, my set was flattened by rubble from my house," said the 19-year-old whose favourite player is England striker Michael Owen.

"People in this area really love to watch soccer. Watching the World Cup would be entertainment for us while we are still grieving from the earthquake."

Elsewhere, there are other dangers.

Three Kenyans, hoisting a television antenna to watch the World Cup, were electrocuted and nearly killed when they accidentally hit a high-voltage power line in Nairobi.

What's funny is, Iran, where a lot of the hard-liners get their cues as far as interpretation of Sharia law, actually has a team PLAYING in the World Cup. rofl.

Soccer actually is pretty big over there, lots of fans, in spite of some of the more radical clerics.

Soccer really is the World's game, far more than any other.

I understand Ivory Coast, which had been dealing with a civil war for 3 years running, is finally at peace, at least temporarily, because of their team being in; people are so behind their team, they didn't want to disrup their chances by having fighting at home while they're in Germany competing.

Wow, the Saudi/Tunisia game just ended. What a game. Amazing game, seriously.

Tunisia dominated the first half, and went into the locker room at 1-0. Saudi arabia tied it up about 12 minutes into the 2nd half, and was dominating the play. About halfway through the 2nd half, Saudi subs in their greatest player ever, who's like 40 and was actually retired before they talked him into playing this one last World Cup. Then, in the 84th minute, he actually scores, putting Saudi up 2-1. Absolutely nuts. Looks like Saudi's going to take the game, until more than 2 minutes into stoppage time, Tunisia finally gets a good run, crosses, and one of their forwards headed it in, tying the game.

Complete craziness.

very disappointed in england's performance. they really should be smoking these teams in their group. they looked very lacklustre on the ball in the T&T game

USA did great today against Italy even though it ended up in a tie. Great passing and teamwork on our part. Keller is an awesome goalie too. That ref should be fired though. Those red card calls were the biggest crock of political bullshit I've ever seen. The stadium was totally for USA too. Every time we had the ball and were advancing down the field the crowd went wild, while the support for Italy was pretty minimal. That was good to see (and hear). :boots:

The fans are what inspired USA to play better. The Czech game was dominated by czech fans while this one USA fans made a statement and our team responded. I'm happy with this result as I want USA and Italy to advance. Italy needs to win against Czechs (who are without a striker) and USA needs to beat Ghana. I think US matches up better against Ghana than Italy did so there is a chance we can advance.

I have Navy duty this weekend and we watched the game yesterday at the reserve center. When Beasley scored the second go ahead goal (before it was waived off) the room when absolutely nuts. The CO heard the streaming from outside the building as he was coming back from lunch. :lol:

Yeah, that was something else. That ref needs to be fired for sure. The slow-motion playback clearly indicated no intentional foul play whatsoever on our part.

Well let me first say, that I was torn with this game. I pull for Italy first and foremost, but of course I also pull for our boys in the red, white, and blue. I was so excited about this game and was hoping for a good game and thats what I got.

Now, as far as the fans, I was honestly suprised by the US support. The noise was fantastic, but to say the Italia fans were not in show is false. Italy's fans were making a HUGE amount of noise, but was not aired well on TV. Some of the replay film I watched later via BBC coverage showed Italy's fans nearly drowning out the stadium.

But the big discussion is the officiating. Did the Americans deserve those calls? Yes. Did Italy deserve there calls? Yes. Was the ref at fault for letting the play get too physical from the beginning? Yes. The official actually did a miraculous job of getting control of the game after the 25m mark and letting the guys play good physical soccer.

There were also a TON of blown calls, but mostly by the side officials. Italy lost a goal (which was one of the best shots of the tournament) due to a bad offsides call that even the American commentators agreed with. The US was screwed with offides calls as well.

All in all I hope the US gets a 3goal win and advances with Italy into the next round.

One of the red cards was totally unfair and unnecessary. The other one should have been a yellow card at worst. Italians are good actors.

You conveniently failed to post the pic just prior to that first one when he was clearly only trying to reach for the ball. His legs were out there already. He was not trying to trip the Italian, or tackle him. Your Italian roots are biasing your viewpoint on this matter.
