It's funny cause I'm just getting back into TNG harcore. I watch like 2 episodes a day on spike and I haven't seen a single episode in like 10 years. I keep trying to get my girlfriend to watch but she thinks I'm a nerd. She said she'd only watch episodes with Wil Wheton in them. I think it's a Toy Soldiers thing.

haha my daughter LOVES TNG. She can be in the worst mood but the opening music comes on and she actually will instantly turn and start watching.

I love spike for showing TNG and DS9 all day.

I've actually started enjoying enterprise, I never really watched it when the show was new mostly because of the time slot. Bakula isn't as bad as i thought he was

Picard is the only Captain for me.

I got my girlfriend to start watching SG:1. She thinks Richard Dean Anderson is hot for some reason. Also she watches the new Dr. Who and is very pissed that Christopher Eccleston won't be in season 2.

I forced my girlfriend to watch Fire Fly and by the end of the DVDs she was more into it then I was.

the new Dr Who was great, when they brought back the dalek, I had flashbacks from my childhood.

I've boycotted SG:1 though

Ditto.

Malcolm Reynolds > Kirk/Picard

Not sure about Captain Janeway, though. She was scary dangerous.

sisco wasn't too bad, although it got kinda crazy with the religion aspect, I didn't like janeway but thats most likely because I thougth voyageur sucked. I could also do without seeing picard in his PJs every week

I was never a fan of voyager. Didn't mind DS9 so much but TNG is still my favorite. Picard is still my favorite captain with Kirk comming in a close second.

I never forced my girlfriend to watch the Firefly series. She brought home the series one day. I was walking by the TV and saw it and was like, "Where the hell did you get that?" Once Serenity came out she begged me to go watch it with her. She came home a couple days later with one of the movie posters that she had conned from the Suncoast people to let her have (she didn't have to buy it).

She's a bigger sci-fi nerd than I. And I thought I was bad. The best part is she wears Prada sunglasses and carries a Louis Vuitton handbag. She's a hot nerd...

She always tells me she would leave me for Nathan Fillion, though.

D. Duck wrote:me and a buncha people that hang out in irc together from eq days (manalope, arakys, escoe the lodizal farmer, korelor, fuffalo, rhap and some other thugs) were playing together for awhile on a pvp server yeah but the server (hakkar) on horde was full of rejects from other servers and the quality guild choices were zero so must of us said fuck it and stopped playing or went to diff servers (i quit for my 2nd time)

i dont see myself playing again cus i just dont give a fuck anymore about progressing myself in a game, i just want to log on and own shit non-stop

i've only played on pvp servers, pros:

* always have to be paying attention
* there's times where you can just pull off crazy shit that you wouldn't normally be able to do in a bg
* if some faggot is in a camp you want just slaughter them over and over until they get the point and leave
* world pvp is serious fun, we used to camp theramore isle docks with 3 or 4 people, it's just a long dock with the boat on a 3 minute timer, so you'd have people coming from both sides trying to get on or off the boat, and we'd just hold the docks for like 45 min, if shit gets hairy commandeer the boat and hide until the next zone and just own people as they come on

blackcock mountain is fun pvp too

* killing people that try to gank you is fun too
* outdoor bosses are cool unless you have faggy cross-faction guild alliances, can be frustrating though if your guild gets owned, but stuff like little 1 or 2 groups trying to harrass your raid and having to pay attention to a boss mob and kill people at the same time is cool
* shit talking and drama
* can gank low levels if you want for shits and giggles (manalope used to do this all day, i'm a little more big hearted tho)
* i really do think you tend to become a better player from the combination of having to pay full attention to not get ganked, and having to adapt early on to different things happening around you

cons:
* tends to attract faggots (i think but then again i can't stand housewives and 45 year old manginas)
* some people can't handle being ganked, i dont give a fuck but some people take it personally or something
* there's no real "point" to world pvp, as in you can't really expect to obtain item advancement through world pvp as you would from BG pvp, but there are some perks to being able to kill whoever you want
* being corpse camped by high levels can be gay but you can avoid it if you just res in a good spot and move somewhere else

and rogues are pretty damn good in world pvp, free choice on who you want to fight and when you want to fight them... pretty much the best solo pvp class out there (just dont get wrapped up on duel-type 1 on 1 fights because some rogues get stuck in that mindset and tend to suck cock in group pvp dynamics where the real bread and butter is)

in bg pvp i'd imagine stuff like alterac valley huge zerg battles being annoying as fuck, once you come unstealthed you're pretty much cannon fodder for ranged classes so you gotta be really tricky on which targets you choose and you gotta really actively try to avoid being owned

in warsong gulch and arathi basin they're damn good, i'm not sure what their complaints are in these situations but from everything i've seen and heard they're useful as fuck in these

best race for pvp is undead, will of the forsaken just owns, however the blood elf racial looks like it's gonna be sweet as fuck for rogues (8 yard ae silence, when it hits a target with mana you gain 20 energy)

and in raids rogues generally top the dps meters depending on the fight, if they have free reign to go all out without fear of agro or AE damage or resist gear i don't really think any other class can top them (other than maybe the odd fury warrior but they're super limited by agro so in most fights they have to hold back quite a bit)

rogues have pretty good agro reduction abilities (not as good as hunter tho....... but hunter doesnt have the raw dps ability that rogues has, although they can top dm meters on occasion) so unlike a mage or warrior or warlock they can pump out a ton of damage without fear (most of the time)

yeah

great post thanks. I might check out PVP when the new races come out. I need a different type of MMO distraction and ganking n00bs sounds about right.

whoa, this took a hard right turn

let's get back to bashing agrafag!

WOW raiding is different than EQ, in that once you have the strat down, you could bot an entire encounter np

it was interesting learning how to kill stuff, but once you did, it got way more routine than EQ raiding ever did

Not really, it would work the same way in both cases. At least in WoW they changed some of the boss encounters at least once to make people have to learn a new way to kill them. It was to fix some bugs, but they changed the Onyxia encounter a bit.

Taken from http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=blizzard-archive&t=11&s=blizzard&tmp=1

Known Issue: The Onyxia encounter is not functioning properly

As for Onyxia specifically, I want to walk everyone through some of the fixes that were made as well as some of the changes that are incoming. Our goal is *not* to ninja-stealth-nerf the encounter to prevent players from beating her. Our goal is to ensure that the encounter is working how it was designed to work. Id rather be up front about changes that are going to be made rather than have a false perception amongst the community that we dont want the encounter to be beat. Trust me, we want Onyxia killed. We are counting on our hardcore players to beat her. We just want the encounter to function properly because we take great pride in our work.

First, let me cover the most recent bugs that were hotfixed (a hotfix is a change we can make directly on the server without having to patch your client wow.exe file).

1) Onyxias fireball was fixed so that it ignores Line-of-Sight checks.

It was never intended that players could hide from the fireball. And as anyone who has raided her lair can tell you, there are some minor anomalies with Line-of-Sight checks in the geometry. So often times, youd be standing in a spot that was seemingly out in the open, yet the fireball would not reach you.

2) We fixed a bug with the range of Onyxias fireball.

Onyxia should be able to hit you anywhere in her lair. A bug was causing it so that certain parts of the lair were safe from the attack because of a range check. The bug was fixed and now the fireball can reach all intended targets.

3) We fixed a bug that was causing the wave of whelps not to spawn between phase 1 and phase 2 of the encounter.

Ironically enough, it was the bugged Raid State that caused these to stop functioning. The whelps were making their appearance in Beta and no changes were ever made to them between Beta and the retail version of the game. However, with the introduction of the Raid State bug, the whelps decided to take an extended vacation.

4) Fixed Onyxia so that she is immune to taunt.

Ok, so that pretty much covers the recent hotfixes. Now its important for those of you working on the Onyxia encounter to know about some upcoming changes. These changes cannot be hotfixed and will require a patch. Some of you will see this as a bonus because that means you can attempt to kill her in her current state before the changes go live. But I feel that its important to notify you of the changes so that you can work on a strategy that will work once the encounter is functioning properly.

1) The egg pit will become much more dangerous. I highly recommend not fighting in it.

2) Onyxian warders will now respawn in the hallway while Onyxia is in combat. The hallway is very unsafe. Your raid should engage the dragon in her lair.

3) Players can leave combat during the encounter. This breaks the encounter in many ways. I believe this bug was identified and fixed last Friday internally.

Lastly, there is an upcoming change that will benefit would-be-dragonslayers. Onyxia's fireballs will no longer result in a confuse effect (Engulfing Flames). The impact damage of these fireballs has been slightly increased to compensate for the loss of the damage over time. The overall damage has been lessened.

So, Tikker I'd love to see you bot even a minor encounter in WoW. In EQ, people used to 2-4 box bosses all the time without dying. Every class has a role that needs to played pretty damn near perfect or it means a wipe. I don't know about now. Not even possible in any end game boss encounters in WoW without losing all but one box bot. More than likely your main comp bot. And losing a single healer or tank can mean a wipe.

erm, pick pretty much any fight in MC, and you can completely script the kill

the only one that would be remotely difficult to script would be, erm, i've forgotten the names, but the 2 that have all the adds

the 1 right before you spawn the main boss, and the 3rd last one (main guy with 4 or 6 adds)

It's because they're arguing with someone who is completely without a clue about what he's talking about. You don't know WoW, so you can't exactly argue about its flaws.
