nothing is wrong with australians, it's just like calling an american a canadian type of thing
like i said earlier, his dad is a sound editor and was sound editor on lotr - he really wanted to get into the music industry but he already has a solid foot in the door in film (cue haters saying haha he wants to come here to do something impossible)

It's actually true. NZ is very much like Canada. The people their are nicer than they are in Australia (like the US and Canada). People aren't so hung up with their own self-importance. It's much more relaxed and fun in NZ.

Why not work for WETA? Half the sound engineers in the US would die to work there, and they are in NZ.
The other remark was a blatant poke at an affable but sarcastic compatriot of mine to the North, Gyp.

You've obviously not spent much time in Quebec.

Let me just say again because I don't think it's getting through
He hates NZ. He's wanted to move to the states since he was 5. He does not want to live in NZ. Nice jobs there are all good and well but he does not want to be there. Me moving there is not an option 1. because I don't want to live in NZ 2. my family is all here and 3. that would still leave him in NZ, where he does not want to be

He's going to move to Florida to become a filmmaker when half the syndicated shows of the world film in New Zealand?

I've never been to Canada at all in fact.
I bought a ticket to Toronto several years ago and never went. then I ate the money. so sad.

I think people are suggesting it b/c it doesn't look like it's feasible for him to come here except as a vacation. I think people are just offering other solutions for you. I can say over and over that I want to fly to the moon, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen!

No, he's going to move to Florida because it's the most feasible option right now and there's a very good film school outside of orlando.
He's not moving here solely for film, he has always wanted to live in the states, period. There isn't much more I can say to get my point across I think - there isn't one reason he wants to live in the states, there's a list of reasons that he's had since he was young.

I understand that Menlaan but it also seems that there's a skewed view with a "why would you want to leave NZ" perspective, I'm just wanting to clarify that the fact is he doesn't want to be in NZ and it doesn't really matter why, our primary focus is to get him here so I was just clarifying that.

hey gyps
I saw his picture, what a hottie good GOD. you know what he should do? in all honesty?????
what every other person does that wants to be in the film industry. they move to LA and they pretend they are already in the industry and they literally, by acting like one of them...get their foot in the door. I've read this in so many books...people really do just wing it.
howard stern jokes about it, but it's true. the one thing that separates hollywood from the rest of us, is the ability to bullshit your way into something. If I wanted, I could go there right now and convince anyone I want to believe that I'm an actress or writer.

Ok...we're telling you it's probably gonna take years and his wanting to do this badly and forever isn't gonna change that.
IF you want to spend that waiting time together then your only option is to go there.
Otherwise get used to the long distance charges.

His foot is already in the door with his dad - as with anything it's not what you know, it's who you know. He just really wants to get his degree; he's not the type of person to make it riding someone else's coattails, he wants his own credentials. The reason Florida is what we're looking at is because we'd be living with my dad a while to save up some money, then move and try to get him into full sail which is about 2 hours from my dad's house. It's a really highly regarded school, at least down there it is, and it's what he has his heart set on.
and yes, he is hot thanks =b

well again, I don't mean to sound like I'm discouraging you two. but gyps take it from me cause I know...don't get too far ahead of yourself. planning something like this too far in advance is dangerous because the possibility of disappointment is so grand.
time is an important factor when you plan things. take it one or two steps at a time with your final goal in your sights, but open to other possibilities. I just went through this with myself and it was a good lesson to learn.

all I know is locally it's highly regarded. I don't know anyone who's gone personally, just of the reputation down there. if you know something bad of the school hey ears open, i just don't want this turned into a shit slinging thread ><

amen...Those fuckers give the rest of the canadians a bad name. Much the same way that the illegal aliens from mexico give the rest of mexico a bad name.

Sound editing right? Not mixing? I find it funny his father was nominated for an Oscar yet can't get his son to come live with him in the US.

I don't think they pull strings for the entertainment industry, especially since jonathan has nothing to do with it currently. And i think he does both editing and mixing

His dad worked on this movie:

I liked that movie.

He's a mixer, which means he's an Oscar winner or at least part of the Oscar winning sound mixing team.
