That being said, if you have the time to do it, just go. It isn't that big of a deal and if you're halfway intelligent (Most people who have time for jury duty aren't, unfortunately) you might actually help the person whose trial you'll be involved.
dude, if you don't go a judge can then lock you up for contempt. and they do send the letters certified. it said right on mine a warrant would be issued and i could be subject to arrest and fines if i don't show up and don't contact them.
but anyway just go get it over with.

they don't have you sign for a jury duty notice... i got one, forgot about it, didn't go, and have dealt with the police without any word about warrants out for my arrest.

Because certified mail means you sign the thing to receive it. No court ever has sent a jury duty summons via certified mail.
Throw the shit away if you don't want to go.

ha if i were that judge i would've made him bring his dog to court and count the wrinkles on its balls
...and then excused him from jury duty
