My CSection cut was ripped because she was bigger than they expected, they had to push her down, on a part of my chest that wasnt numbed, and they had 2 test tries on my spinal. Woot.

I think it is great that they kept her alive for the baby. The $400,000 is already gone, in medical bills alone, and I hope the husband has a safety net for bills. Poor family.

In 2002, my Dad was having various heart problems. One day at work, his heart stopped in a bathroom stall, and his brain was without oxygen for at least 9 minutes. He was found and given CPR, and rushed to the hospital and put on life support. After talking to several doctors/neurologists and such, we knew that he was in a vegetative state, and would never again be able to live a meaningful life, do the things he loved to do or even be able to open his eyes and see his friends and family again.

Shortly after he was put on life support, my sister and I were at the side of his bed, talking to him. We said things like "wiggle your toes," and, he would wiggle his toes. He was subconciously responsive, however, the next day, all that responsiveness was gone (although his brain activity readings were consistent). The final decision to pull the plug on him was mine; I knew in my head that he would never be the same, and I knew in my heart that he would not want to be kept alive like this. Life support was removed and he passed away after about 14 hours.

Now I'm curious, is there anyone out there on this board that would dare say that my course of action was wrong? That I essentially "murdered" my own father? That he should have been kept alive, against my family's and my own wishes based on what we knew in our hearts that he would want? Let me assure you, during this entire process, not one of us even stopped for a moment to think about any of the costs or medical bills.

People need to mind their own business, because in cases like this you can never fully understand or relate to the situation without being involved in it, and when you're not directly involved, any opinion you have just reeks of ignorance.

Sounds like your dad needed more fiber in his diet. A person shouldn't need to push that hard.

It's because it's Kainne, and he's friends with Kainne - had you or I posted the same situation, he'd have said that we were horrible people

And Kainne, that really sucks. I can't fathom having to make a decision like that - it was hard enough having to make the DNR decision on my farmor, and she was terminally ill for a long time. Stuff like that will age you quickly, though - you're certainly no murderer.

kaiine-this story makes me sad everytime you post it. It must have taken alot at your age at the time to make such a decision. I've said it before, I wouldn't be able to do it.

I feel for you man. I know it is rough.

I know when My Grandmother's Pancreatic Cancer finally started spreading she told my father not to try any special treatments to keep her alive. This is a very religous woman I am talking about too. She was the wife of a Lutheran Minister for 60+ years. The difference between some forms of Christianity and others I guess. Some believe that keeping the life support on is a way for them not to be with God.

She had a viewpoint that simply stated was "If God wants me, he can have me. I want just to say 'Seeya later' to my family before I go." She did that, and passed away shortly afterwards. Yes, we could have kept her on life support for a few months but we did not. It was according to her wishes. Frankly I think it would have been a total and complete disrespect to her had we kept her alive. Grandma's ashes were mixed with Grandpa's and placed in the cemetary.

Only when you experience what Kaaine goes thru can you really understand what a sick and twisted idea it is to keep some one plugged in like that.

McLEAN, Virginia (AP) -- An infant born last month to an unconscious, severely brain-damaged mother has died, the family said Monday.

Susan Anne Catherine Torres, born prematurely on August 2, died of heart failure Sunday after emergency surgery to repair a perforated intestine, a family statement said.

A spokeswoman at St. Rita's Church in Alexandria said parishioners were told of the child's death during morning Mass.

The infant's condition had deteriorated rapidly over the weekend, according to the family.

Cancer patient Susan Torres was kept alive on life support for three months so she could deliver the child.

Torres, a 26-year-old researcher at the National Institutes of Health, suffered a stroke in May after melanoma spread to her brain.
