I am installing a 3rd Directv receiver in my house and need some advice. The dish has a dual LNB on it (2 wires coming from dish that currently connect to the other 2 receivers. Stupid me bought a "Satellite Splitter" from radio shack for 12 bucks and guess what--it doesn't work.

After reading up some, I see that you have to use a multiswitch for this because of the two frequencies etc. (or some shit like that)

Anyways, I ordered a 2x4 multiswitch from ebay today and am wondering just for the hell of it-wtf is a satellite splitter good for if ti cant be done? (Radio shack scam?)

A satellte splitter is a fance way of just splitting a single signal from the dish to multiple TV's. Unlike cable, where the cable box or the TV actually focuses on the specific channel signal when you change the channel, with satellite, the dish does it. When you split the signal from the dish, all TV's are getting the same exact signal that has been translated by the dish. This is why you need a dish that is capable of handling multiple signals inorder to display multiple channels at once.

Keep in mind I havn't worked with them in a while and things may have changed a bit since.
