A guy that goes to my college really wants to be a pilot. he got an eye test yesterday, and the doctor told him he was color blind, so now his dream to be a pilot is ruined. Is this true?

"To tap" is to very gently hit against something. "Heels" are the back part of the foot, or the raised part of a shoe underneath the foot.

Yep. Stupid, idiotic rule since he probably just failed a falant test, but you can't be a pilot in the U.S. and be color blind, or color deficient. Welcome to the last level of silly discrimination.

Is this to hold a pilot's license at all? Or just to fly people professionally? Because I knew a guy who had his license, and just flew his uncle's rather small 2-person plane, and he was colorblind.

Of course this was someone I only knew through EQ, so I can't verify how accurate the information is, but I think I still have his e-mail address to ask him again.

You can get a waiver, but generally cannot fly commercial, although as always there are exceptions.

I know people who are color deficient who memorized the number card tests, since they all use the same numbers when I was younger, to bypass this.

Well, as far as I knew he was just flying himself and his uncle around, so it wasn't commerical.

Yes this is true due to fact that the FAA dont want planes to run traffic signals in the sky and crash into each other.

Don't quote me, but I think it matters how colorblind he is. I know that if it's minor, you can get a waiver.

And yes, the navigation lights on the wings are red and green, so I can tell if that airplane in front of me is coming at me head on. /girl scream

Oh, also... very important. If he's hellbent on becoming a professional pilot, tell him to try and get a First Class medical. If he can't get one, he may be able to get a Third Class, but he'll never be allowed to fly for the airlines.
