Diekan's NFL Predictions.

These are my predictions for this season:

Division Winners

NFC East - Philadelphia. - I don't think Dallas has the staying power to hold onto the lead. I think Bledsoe is just to old and to slow. I think Philly, much to my displeasure, will take the NFC East in the end. Although, I think Washington could suprise us.

NFC South - Tampa. - I think Atlanta is too cocky for their own good. Tampa is pretty hot right now and I don't see them slowing down any time soon.

NFC North - Chicago. - The whole division sucks... doesn't really matter who takes it in the end, no one from this sorry division will make the play offs.

NFC West - Rams. - I think the Rams are going to suprise all of us and take the division. I just don't think Seattle has "it" this year.

___________________________________________________________

AFC East - New England. - As much as I would like to see the Bills pull it off; I don't think they're good enough to take the division. New England is struggling this year - but they pull this shit every year. Start off slow then pick up speed like a missile. Brewski is coming back, but whether or not he'll make that much of a difference - we'll just have to wait and see.

AFC South - Indy. - Indy is on fire and I don't see anyone really putting it out any time soon. I think Jacksonville is overrated and full of themselves.

AFC West - Denver. I had a hard time making a call on this one. But, Denver is playing good ball right now. Not sure if Kansas City will be able to catch up and hold a lead over the Broncs. But, they may suprise us.

AFC North - Pittsburgh. I think the Bungles cinderella story will come to a halt fairly soon. Chalk it up as a fluke. The Stealers will come back and take the division in the end.

AFC Play Offs

Indy, Pittsburgh, New England, Denver... Bungles, J-ville, Buffalo (as possible Wild Cards).

NFC Play Offs

Tampa, Rams, Philly, Atlanta... Dallas, Seattle, Carolina (as possible Wild Cards).

The Super Bowl

I'm going out on a limb here, but I predict for the AFC it will come down to Denver and Indy with Indy taking it.

For the NFC I predict Tampa and Philly with Tampa taking it.

I see Indy and Tampa in this seasons Super Bowl.

Regardless of who in the NFC goes - I just think that conf is to weak to handle any of the AFC's top teams.

The AFC will win the Super Bowl.

NFC South, Jacksonville too cocky? Aren't Jacksonville in the AFC?

Yeah I meant Atlanta - I made the correction.

Madden 2006, in 2 out of 5 simulations had Chargers vs Eagles in the Superbowl, with the Eagles winning both times. I'll go with that prediction.

Buccaneers' quarterback Griese torned both his ACL and MCL in his left knee; out for the season. Most likely Chris Simms will be the quarterback now. So they may not win the NFC south.

buc's don't need a QB to win games for them

just one good enough to not lose games

Somebody from the NFC North will make the playoffs, one hundred percent guaranteed... only because the winner of each division automatically gets a berth.

I'd be surprised if the Chargers don't make it. They seem to have figured out the "Give LDT touches" strategy now.

The Rams have been a terrible, terrible team thus far, with a barely below average offense and one of the three worst defenses in the league. They'd have to completely change course to overtake Seattle.

yup

Chargers will be a hard team to beat once they're going

Seattle will be good once they realize that Juravicious is their best receiver

Denver is looking good in the AFC. They already beat San Diego, New England, and Jacksonville.

Keep in mind that Denver played San Diego when they were inexplicably on an LDT diet, and caught New England with a host of injuries. Washington managed to outplay them for most of the game, but Denver essentially lucked into a win anyways.

This isn't to denigrate Denver's accomplishments, as they deserve credit for pulling out the Washington game, and had no control of their opponents' injuries and asinine game plans, but it does curtail their use as indicators of future success.

We'll see how good Denver is since they will play Dallas, Philadelphia, New York Giants and San Diego again.

I think the cowboys will take the east. 6 games into the season after switching to a new defense and they are looking strong. The giants were the highest scoring team in the league til the cowboys held them to 13. Their scoring was dismal, but they were without Julius Jones.

Bledsoe is also playing virtually mistake free football, which is what you need on a strong defense/ball control team.

I only see them getting better. I definitely think they will make the playoffs, and in the weak nfc, they have an outside shot to make it all the way. I mean, they've already beaten the concensus #1 nfc team, and it wasn't just a win, it was a thumping.

Of course, the problem is that you're relying on Drew Bledsoe to play mistake-free football. I've actually been a Bledsoe fan ever since his collegiate years, but if his protection breaks down, he's very vulnerable to making poor decisions. Losing Flozell Adams for the season could well mean more pressure on Bledsoe, which any Patriot fan can attest is a Bad Thing.

I don't see Dallas getting much better. At this point in his career, I think you're seeing the best Bledsoe has to offer. Factor in the attrition from injuries (in addition to Adams, Crayton is out for a while, Jones is already banged up), and I think the Cowboys will be lucky to continue playing at their current level. I don't put a huge amount of stock in the Philly game as Owens and McNabb were playing with fairly significant injuries, and Akers, who's been the best kicker in the NFL over the past few years, was out. Dallas matches up well with Philly, and played precisely the type of game calculated to take advantage of the Eagles' current weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, the Cowboys played one hell of a game, but I'm not certain it's a good indicator of future success just yet.

See: Field Goal percentage, Extra point percentage, net Kickoff Distance.

Vinateri has been in the position to permanently imbed himself in the public conciousness through his last minute heroics, but Akers has actually outperformed him overall.

I have to agree. Vinatieri is slacking this season :(

There is something to be said for being the guy who can kick the winning kicks, as opposed to the guy who hits everything except the big ones

Very true, but his performance could have turned a game or two already.

He's missed 2-3 key FG's that I can remember and I've not been watching every single minute of every game even yet.

Owens and McNabb are kind of like Roger Clemens, when they're good they're great, when they're bad, they're "injured."

McNabb had the same injury the week before and threw 5 damn td's or some silly nonsense. Akers I'll give you, but in a 33 to 10 thrashing, a place kicker isn't going to come close to being the difference.

Now, I will give you the fact I didn't know Flozell Adams was out, and he is one of the most dominate O Linemen in the league, which could really pose problems.

Eh, anyway - My cowboys post is mostly wishful thinking, based to a degree in reality, I am big enough to admit that. :P

The (baseball) cardinals are failing me miserably at the moment, so.. dallas is my focal point!

When was the last time Akers missed a game-deciding kick?

Vinateri's had more chances in the spotlight than Akers has, which makes him a much more memorable figure, but Akers has definitely been the better kicker thus far.

The man has a sports hernia. That means the muscles of his lower abdomen have torn. It won't prevent a player from putting up big numbers occasionally, but to pretend it won't have an impact on his performance against a team like Dallas (who played a very smart offensive game, getting in McNabb's face early and often) is a bit silly.

The thing that impressed me the most about the Dallas win was the way they managed to hold Westbrook in check. Any time a defense can pressure a quarterbck and still contain a back of Westbrook's calibre, especially given his prowess in the receiving game, they've done a heckuva job.

I'm not talking about Akers

someone was complaining about Vinateari and I made a blanket statement about rather having a clutch kicker, than a high percentage, but choke clutch kicker

I seem to be pretty close...

Indy - yep, I got that one.

New England - yep, got that one too.

Denver - yep

Pitts - opps I was wrong on this one. Seems the Bungles might be for real this year.

Chicago - So far so good. Although Minnesota might pull it out.

St. Louis - I missed this one.

Tampa - Can't claim this one yet. Carolina might get lucky.

Philly - I was way off on this one.

So, let's see here...

I'm about .500 for the year. Depending on how Tampa and the Bears do for the rest of the season.

I'm pretty confident that Indy will go to the SB, but I'm betting Tampa will not. Probably Seattle thus far.

So, I'm .500 on the SB.

Guess I'm .500 over all this year.

But, then again... any given Sunday.

At the beginning of the year I had New England, San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Indianapolis in the AFC and Philadelphia, Green Bay, Carolina, and Seatle in the NFC. So far I am sub 500.

I had Indy, NE, Pitt, and San Diego (bengals and chiefs wildcard)

Giants, Chicago, Seattle and Carolina (philly and TB wildcard)
