Heheh, wouldn't be giving you shit if you hadn't have been running your mouth about how much the Astros sucked and had no business being in the playoffs. ;)

woohoo tonight wasn't a total loss!

I just hope they don't lose too many players in the off season. Starting pitching isn't too bad. Just need some better clutch hitting and bullpen help. Their weakness was the old folks they had I think-especially Walker. Pujols is solid, as is Eckstein, catcher is solid, when rolen comes back, 3rd is set (if he can stay healthy). I guess a Beltran type character in the outfield would maybe do the trick.

I also hope the free agent market is ripe this year and more importantly I hope the owner doesn't pull a payroll dump after 2 years of blowing it in the postseason.

A lot of the money will go to reaquiring pitching. Carpenter Morris and maybe Suppan are free agents? We'll free up 12 million by walker, but Carpenter is going to account for that after the season he has had. As much as I love Reggie Sanders, he is a free agent and its time to let him go too. Morris has never really returned to form, and I think we should let him go and give Brad Thompson his chance. He did great out of the bullpen this year, and had a 56 inning scoreless streak in triple A last year.

Should go with a rotation of Carpenter, Mulder, Suppan, Marquis, Thompson.

Bullpen more or less the same.

Line up of Eckstein, (free agent rf, brian giles maybe?), pujols, rolen, edmonds, grudz, taguchi, molina.

That should keep us around the same level of pay, and make us a better team. Well, thats my take on it anyway~

If you take sanders out of the mix though, you need to fill in the home run/RBI gap, no?

I can't recall offhand how many walker and sanders had (or would have had with a full season uninjured) but I think it was a noticeable amount. The free agent outfielder you mentioned would possibly eliminate that gap though..(?)

I believe, although not certain that they have a shitload of pitching talent at the AAA level. The starting rotation was not too shabby. There are no really interesting names to choose from so you might want to hold on to what you have and take the bite on salary cap. It isn't like they don't have the attendance numbers to back it.

They are going to absolutely HAVE to fix the bullpen. All year my bro raved about how good they were yet every time I watched them, the pen was fucking shit up.

Lastly, they need to bring back what is affectionately known around my house as the "drunk nigger". Last season that team was a hitting powerhouse. Now maybe steroids had something to do with that, but it just seemed like we could be losing in any game and in the 7-8-9th inning we'd come back with power to kick ass. (Not counting the world series..ugh) I figured after the world series (which this Houston series was painfully reminiscent of) that they saw where the breakdown was and got rid of the last hitting coach. Until I later learned that he resigned due to alcoholism, supposedly.

Bring the drunk back, they looked a lot better last year...not counting the world series, of course. Damn...4 runs difference between the world series and ending season this year basically.

The problem with the pen in the postseason was no Al Reyes. If you move everyone else down a slot, its fine.

Rolen and a potential replacement RF would more than account for the RBI's of Walker and Sanders, niether of them had great seasons.

Of course if Rolen gets injured again, we're in trouble. It's really hard to use 8 mill a year on 0 production. So, thats going to be an issue for us no matter what, if he cant stay healthy.

Assuming he is healthy and produces around his normal level, 80+ rbi, then the offense would be better than this year.
