This was a fucking sham. And everyone knew it. A straw man to try to pre-emptively (heheh) take the wind out of Mr. Murtha's resolution.
NO ONE IS ASKING FOR AN IMMEDIATE PULLOUT. More classless Republican politics.

As objectively as I can say this: I think the democrats make themselves constantly look really fucking stupid in the media with their PC'ish dogma backed by a complete lack of cohesion and a freedom fried side of bullshit.
I vote libratarian and somewhat identify with the republicans, but godamn the dems come off as total smacktards.
I mean is it just me or is everyone fucking tired of hearing them whine and fucking cry about a war they voted for?
Maybe I'm too simple, (highly doubt it) but if you are going to be a whiny bitch about something have a fucking reasonable alternative... Don't just sit around crying with your thumb prostate deep in your ass.

Actually 3 were asking for immediate pullout. Murtha is advocating immediate pull out, I can't help but respect that. Although I may not agree with doing so, I feel it came from the heart. I don't think the man is grand standing or playing politics, I thinks he's doing this because thats what he truly feels is needed.
Of course there were politics involved in brining this to a vote, it was a "calling out" put your vote where your mouth is. I have absolutely no problem with any of our representatives who voted either for or against. Although I, as I think most do, see it as a mistake to immediately start a complete withdrawl I don't take issue with the three that felt it is. That is to say a vote of yes or no on this resolution would not influence me one bit at the ballot box.
What does bother me is 6 who either couldn't make a decision or were afraid to. Maybe this was thier way of "protesting" but I really see that as lack of intestinal fortitude. Then we have 22 who couldn't even be bothered to show up for work. Those 28 I do have a problem with.
As a side note, I do think the DNC should take a serious look at Murtha as a possible presidential cantidate. The murmer is that in 2008 it will be Hillary Clinton... I seriously don't see myself voting for her, I could see myself voting for Murtha.

The question may be whether Murtha would want the job or not.

I hear that, I really do wonder how many good cantidates we never see because they don't want to deal with the politics or character attacks.

Do you have a reason for saying so beyond simply not agreeing with him on withdrawl of troops?

For a man who's served IN Veitnam, he should know better than to take a stance like that. Not only is it a huge blow to the moral of the troops - you simply CAN'T pull out now. I've been hanging out with a buddy of mine who was just back on leave from Iraq and who just shipped back out over. Our media is completely FUCKED. He said that the vast majority of the shit you see on the news is just that.... shit.
They don't show the schools the military built for Iraqi kids, or the thousands of Iraqi's who go about their day just as we do here. THANKFUL we're there.
You can't pull out now. The very idea of such is suicide to the mission. Why? Because the Iraqi people are counting on our support and protection. If we start spouting off about "pulling out" that just feeds the fears of the people who will then start showing support to the terrorists simply in an effort to protect themselves once we're gone. The SAME shit that happened to us with the South Vietnam.
Murtha is a moron. He of all people should know better.

Exactly. Everyone I know who's come back has said the same thing. I disagree that this is anything like Vietnam though, other than sometimes people are shooting at each other.
