It doesn't matter...that is like the Yankees trading Derek Jeter...you just don't do it.

No the yankees are not a last place team trading away one major reason why you get to the playoffs. The O's are a team that sucks, and year after year they go for a big name HOPING to have that person carry them- Maybe they are finaly starting to understand that they have 20 holes in that roster and one person isnt the solution.

The Oriole's don't seek to trade him, though, Tejada himself is seeking a trade.

You still don't trade the leader and heart and soul of your club away.

Yeah you do. If someone is seeking a trade from the club, esspecially someone of that calibur you get him out of the clubhouse before he destroys it. Not knocking Tejada, but he will tear that clubhouse apart untill he is gone.

The O's need to find out they need to rebuild with youth. This lets get the aging veteren alla Lopez, Palmiero etc are not the answers. You need to build from within with youth. You trade Tejada and get a proven #1 or a #2 and #3 pitcher and or prospects and load up your minor leagues systems with young pitchers.

The only way the Orioles are going to compete in the AL East is to rebuild there system, promote from within and concentrate on pitching. Its going to take 2-3 years to do, but they will be alot closer once they trade Tejada.

Manny was seeking a trade for the Red Sox last season and he didn't destroy the club house. The O's have a potent offense and bullpen, they just need to bring in some starting pitching help then they will contend.

The difference with Manny is EVERY year he is seeking a trade. Every year he doesnt get traded. Tejada is not an attention whore. He has never been out spoken against his team as much as he was this year. His numbers where down considerably in the latter part of last season. He is the type of guy where it will effect his production, and he will make sure everyone knows it.

I would be VERY surprised if he is with the Orioles come spring training. The only way he stays is if they open their pocket book and sign 2 of the good remaining free agent pitchers, and a Good bat, preferably left handed.

He says he wants to be traded to someone in the East. That really cuts down on teams that could suit him. Cardinals, Red Sox (doubt they would trade to someone in their own division) Nationals (good poss), Blue Jays (the new mets!) or Mets, Seems like they can afford everyone.

BALTIMORE - Baltimore Orioles All-Star shortstop Miguel Tejada has backed off from comments that he wanted to be traded, according to a report by Comcast SportsNet.

"I never said I wanted to be traded," Tejada told SportsNet. "I said I want to see a better team. I don't want to keep losing like we have the past two years."

The Associated Press reported earlier that Tejada, frustrated over the team’s failure to add quality talent during the offseason, wanted to be traded. Baltimore has since received several trade offers, but executive vice president Mike Flanagan said Sunday the team wants to hold onto Tejada, who last year hit .305 with 26 homers and 98 RBIs for the fourth-place Orioles.

Flanagan spent much of the weekend talking with Tejada and his representatives, Diego Bentz and Fernando Cuza.

“We had long conversations with Tejada and his agents,” Flanagan said. “What came out of it was the sentiment that Miguel wants to play for a winner. Our goal is the same. We want to be a winner.”

Flanagan would not comment on rumors that the Boston Red Sox have offered left fielder Manny Ramirez for Tejada.

“I can’t say if we’re involved in trade discussions involving Tejada or any other player,” Flanagan said.

Tejada was signed to a six-year, $72 million contract before the 2004 season. He quickly assumed the role of team leader, and although he did not appear to play with his usual enthusiasm toward the end of last season, he never spoke of his frustration until last week during a phone conversation with a reporter for The Associated Press.

“I’ve been with the Orioles for two years and things haven’t gone in the direction that we were expecting, so I think the best thing will be a change of scenery,” he said. “I’ve done many things with this team and I haven’t seen results, and the other teams are getting stronger while the Orioles have not made any signings to strengthen the club.”

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada is “more upset” with the Baltimore Orioles because they haven’t gotten stronger in the offseason than with the team not fulfilling his trade request.

“Now, I am more upset than when I requested the trade because it’s been a month and they haven’t done anything,” Tejada told The Associated Press on Thursday.

Tejada, who is entering the third year of a $72 million, six-year contract, said three weeks ago that he wanted a “change of scenery.”

On Thursday, the disgruntled All-Star said he was upset by the Orioles’ failure to make trades that would strengthen the team.

“I don’t want to say anything bad that can hurt my teammates, but look at Toronto, they have strengthened themselves and we haven’t done anything,” said Tejada, who hit .305 last season with 26 homers and 98 RBIs.

The Orioles and free agent outfielder Jeromy Burnitz agreed on a two-year contract Wednesday, pending the results of a physical, a team source told the AP. The team will pay the former Chicago Cubs right fielder between $10 million and $12 million. The 36-year-old Burnitz hit .258 with 24 homers and 87 RBIs with the Cubs last season.

Baltimore also reached a preliminary agreement with free agent Jeff Conine on a $1.7 million, one-year contract. Conine, who played in Baltimore from 1999-03, needs to pass a physical for the deal to be finalized.

Tejada noted that division rivals New York and Toronto made moves to improve. The Yankees acquired outfielder Johnny Damon and the Blue Jays signed closer B.J. Ryan, starting pitcher A.J. Burnett and third baseman Troy Glaus.

“If the Orioles don’t do anything, I want them to trade me because I am tired of losing,” Tejada said before a winter league game.

If he isn’t traded by the Orioles, Tejada said he would “respect the game as I have always done.”

“I am not asking for a team of superstars, I only want a good group that helps me to win,” he said.

Tejada also responded to comments made by former teammate Rafael Palmeiro, who tested positive for steroids.

Palmeiro has said Tejada gave him vitamin B-12 earlier this year, and suggested it might have been tainted with performance-enhancing drugs.

“Everyone knows that vitamin B-12 doesn’t do anything bad,” Tejada said. “I am not upset with Palmeiro, but enough speaking about that already,” he said.

Today Tejada rescinded his demand to be traded.
