This is based on the assumption that we can retroactivly select powers. I'm hoping we can because I've already started selecting powers further down the tree, like resurection before absorb pain.

Also Sarthis, do the powers go from 32 - 35 - 38? Or was that just a typo and they are actually suppose to go 32 - 34 -36?

Name: Black-Ops
Archetype: Blaster (Tech.)
Primary Powers - Ranged : Assault Rifle
Secondary Powers - Support : Device
Slot[01] Level 1 (Starting Primary) : Burst
Slot[02] Level 1 (Starting Secondary) : Web Grenade
Slot[03] Level 2 : Slug
Slot[04] Level 4 : Buckshot
Slot[05] Level 6 : Combat Jump

Slot[07] Level 10 : Caltrops
Slot[08] Level 12 : Sniper Rifle (<-- I am here, still.)
Slot[09] Level 14 : Targeting Drone (<-- here's where it gets a bit hazy)
Slot[10] Level 16 : Super Jump (maybe Hover instead)

Slot[13] Level 22 : Stamina
Slot[14] Level 24 : Flamethrower

Slot[17] Level 30 : Trip Mine
Slot[18] Level 32 : Full Auto
Slot[19] Level 35 : Time Bomb
Slot[20] Level 38 : Auto Turret
This is sort of my rough plan at the moment, but if I do this it'll mean passing up M30 grenade and Hover. Been playing alts. over the last week or so because I'm not sure how to best proceed. Been considering rolling up a clone, only taking the flying pool instead of leaping.
Also, if I took hover, I think I could probably live without beanbag, but having a tool for disorienting a single foe can come in pretty handy (getting it to work on bosses is a bit iffy, but nice when it actually does).
As sweet a power as Super Jump is, maybe I'll take hover instead, so I can cheapshot luitenants/bosses from the air and avoid melee damage.
It will mean giving up the ability to leap buildings in a single bound, and getting across any given zone in 30 seconds, but between Hover and Combat Jump there's no place I couldn't go (it'll just take longer to get there).
Kind of wishing I had taken Flying instead of Leaping now, but it really didn't seem to fit the idea of my guy.
Would really be cool if smoke grenade or cloaking device would enable me to pull some cheese like sneaking up to groups, planting a big bomb (or two: trip mine and time bomb), sneak back out, nail them with caltrops, then open up with flame thrower, ignite, buckshot, etc.
I imagine it would suck my endurance dry pretty quickly, but I bet I could take out entire groups within seconds.

Level 6 : Hover
Last night I got lvl 6 and didn't see this on the skill list to advance in.. so I didn't do it obviously. Was talking to Pansy and he told me I would have had to pull out a third column...? I don't get it. But he said I could try again at lvl 8.

at level 6 and higher, when you pick new powers, on the right hand side of the screen there will be a button labeled pick new power set. you can pick power from up to 4 different sets (such as Flight, teleport, etc) over the life of your char. The first 2 in each are available at level 6, the 3rd at 14 and the 4th at 20.

New guy, same idea. Still trying to refine the build somewhat.
This time I've done away with Combat Jump, Caltrops and Beanbag, and took Hover, Targeting Drone and Hasten in their place.
Going to go with Flight as my travel power.
I'm pretty happy with these choices over the old ones so far, although the others were pretty nifty utilities.
Targeting Drone seems to work really well (currently have it slotted with 3 "to-hit buff" trainer enhancements), and I've used those slots that were formerly occupied by accuracy enhancers for more damage.
Hasten is pretty nice for boss fights. I can basically chain Burst, Slug, and Buckshot with no pauses, or, if I manage to knock them down, I can use the moment that they're trying to get back up to throw in a Sniper shot.
Looks like I've still got a slot left over with this current build. Not sure whether to take Smoke Grenade, Caltrops, or M30 Grenade. Suppose I could also take a power from a new pool as well. I've heard good things about Teleport Foe... Decisions, decisions.

Can you choose two different types of powers from the third pool? Like fly, then teleport at some later time??

Calm yourself, doctor.
Once the pool powers open up (6th), you have the option of choosing a new pool
power anytime you get a new power (every even level). So, say at 6th you chose
'Hover' from the Flight Pool.
At 8th, you could select 'Air Superiority' from the same pool, or you could
choose the first or second power from a different pool, for example,'Stealth' or
'Grant Invisibility' (from the Concealment pool), or 'Swift' or 'Hurdle' (from
the 'Fitness') pool.
The key is that the 3rd power in any Pool won't open up until you have both:
a) selected the first or second power from the pool, and b) reached 14th level.
The 4th (final) power in a pool doesn't open up until you have:
a) selected one of the first two powers in the pool b) selected the 3rd power
in the pool, and c) reached 20th level.

Thats very interesting. I only want to practice one power from the other pool, teleport friend.
I currently have hover and flight but as a healer I definatly need TP friend. I'll practice that next level (level 16).

Actually, the manual conflicts with what I said about the 4th power from a Power
Pool.
"You must be level 20 and have taken any other two powers in the Pool Set
before choosing the fourth power in the Pool Set." (emphasis mine)
So if for whatever reason you didn't want 'Fly' (3rd power in Flight Pool), you
could theoretically take 'Hover' at 6th, 'Air Superiority' at 8th, and upon reaching
20th level take 'Group Fly', skipping 'Fly' entirely.

Also, you can open up to 4 different pools.
I've got Flight and Speed pools opened now, will definitely be opening Fitness in a couple more levels, and will still be able to open up another (like TP, if I want TP Foe).

For a healer the Leadership pools are very nice to open and have. There will be groups where there really is very little healing to do and the leadership pools are great.

Yeah I liked having leadership on both my blaster and defender. Along with the Fitness pool for stamina and later a travel power itll be nice.
For mine atm

Anyone know if Build Up is any good?
I tried on my blaster and it seemed to not make any difference.
I'm a Katana/Dark Armor scrapper. Here's My current plan (lvl 11 now):

Buildup is AMAZING, its a must have. It is a 10 second or so boost in your attacks that boosts accuracy and damage. It basically adds 50% damage for 10 seconds to all attacks that you can get off in that time. It has like a 45 second or 30 second recharge time. Its awesome for starting a fight with to slice the boss guy down to nothing.
Posted: Wed May 26, 2004 12:48 pm
by Naginataka
Buildup is even better since they announced they would be raising the max damage cap again. It was set for 300% of base for blastes and 310 for scrappers, not it will be 400.

hmm, now to decide what power to ditch...
Maybe taunt, since all I was going to really use it for
is pulling when solo.
