They have all these nifty and when I say nifty I mean gay programs for doing everything including holding other files with Ipods. None of them work too well on Windows based PC's.
Me personally I pretty much fucking hate ipods. They are a spiffy design but the software blows ass. My creative zen micro on the other hand has the best and easiest software I have ever seen with an MP3 player. I love it and so will you.

The only problem I've ever had with my iPod was getting it to work with SuSE 9.2, but that issue was resolved long ago and now 9.3 comes with iPod support.
You don't have to "buy" the songs either. I use various file sharing programs and put the songs right on the iPod by simply dragging and dropping. I don't use iTrunes at all except for to see the iPod to drag and drop music.
I don't think they're hard to use at all. I've dropped mine a couple of times and yet it still looks and works like brand new.
/shrug works for me.

You can watch movies on it and/or your PC via it. Then once on your PC you could burn a copy of it I suppose to a DVD to watch on your tv.

Huh?? You don't have to buy the music from the store. Just steal music off of emule or whatever. The ipod will play anything you want. I have a nano and love it. Only drawback is that the case of it scratches easily if you don't have one of the skins on it or some other cover.

Drag your music files(downloaded free, or uploaded from somewhere else) into itunes, then into your ipod folder under itunes.

You don't even have to do all that. You can drag and drop them directly into the iPod through iTunes.
Connect your iPod --> Open iTunes (if it doesn't start automatically when you connect the iPod) --> click on your iPod (all the music you have on the device will appear) --> open you source folder holding the music you want --> drag and drop it into your iPod list.
That's it.

I got an Ipod Nano for christmas. @@
Are they so horrible that I should just return it asap, or are they pretty decent aside from the online-purchased-song thing (i just buy and rip CDs since those mp3 sites don't have the music I like QQ)?

My mom just got one and I was in charge of setting it up. Easy enough to rip a CD you already own on there, but I can't for the life figure out how to get the music off of the ipod and back in the computer. I'm sure I will.
I think the Ipod nano is pretty nice, but I am using Windows and trying to explain it to my parents... so that detracts a bit. I say stick with it.

jennay,
the Dell mp3s are about to be replaced by the new models (color and xfm radio)
so you might want to wait a couple months

I'm using my new mp3 player as an external hard drive as well for the time being because it is easy to get the shit back off the PC.
There is also some crappy deals with iPods where you can only use one computer to connect to it otherwise it reformats the player.
