I think I broke my windows

Windows explorer is acting all kinds of fucked up. If i try to explore folders it either takes 10 minutes of flashlight goin back and forth or just -nothing- for over 3 minutes until I "end program". During this same time, Windows media player has started to behave the same way. It might open immediately after double clicking a file, or it might...not. Even after it does open it sits there for about 2 minutes saying "Connecting" even though I'm opening a damn local file.
Any suggestions other than "Use linux" or "reformat and start over" would be appreciated. =)
No adware, spyware or viruses. I used 5 different adware/spyware searchers, CWShredder and Norton av as well as AVG free.
