Picked it up at Best Buy for $24.99. Includes original game and all expansions.

I had put off buying this game for years but for that price, that's a hell of a lot of gaming for the $. I'm still not completely sold on the 3rd person view but if you like the Knights of the Old Republic series on XBox, it's very similar.

Didnt they just come out with the Platinum edition?

I bought the original NWN, but only played it a few times. I loved Baldurs Gate and Planescape, but I'm not sure if this'd be worthwhile now.

Just be aware that it only comes on a DVD (that I saw available), so unless you have a DVD-ROM drive, you won't be able to install it.

Baldur's Gate was the own for sure (never did play Planescape, tho). But in the absence of any new BG coming out, given that Black Isle no longer exists, NWN makes for a vaguely acceptible substitute. Besides, as Toss said, getting the base game + 3 expansions for 35 bucks is a pretty good deal.

I'd actually be curious to know if there are any people out there actually running real D&D campaigns using NWN. That's really what it was designed for, supposedly, making do-it-yourself online D&D modules, so you could have a online gaming group, with DM & players.

If I had the time to invest in it, i'd convert the campaign I'm running with my friends into a NWN version.

Mmmm, once a week AD&D Campaign online with NWN and a few 30something peoples.

I might escape my MMO DTs with this.

I dunno if you could really do it once a week, tho, unless the DM has an insane amount of free time to put together the modules for you to go through during the week. While I am quite aware it takes a lot of effort to generate tabletop content over the course of a week, I am sure it'd take significantly more work to generate 3d content like that.

Just wishfully reminiscing about my college and high school tabletop daze.

I thought NWN allowed for pretty rapid module completion. Also, isn't there a lot of previously genned content that could be downloaded?

HA you should see how slackass I am with my campaign these days. I can get a 5 or 6 hour session going with about 30 minutes prep time.

Man I'm lazy~

The Drow series... Tomb of Horrors... those were some good times!

I know there are tons of player made campaigns and converted classic campaigns out there, I just need time to check them out. I have a friend that ran a persistent server for several years but just recently took it down so he could move. He tried to talk me in to playing for a long time... oh well.

If someone gets a campaign going, count me in. I've had enough of the whole MMO time sink.

Ditto. I'd love to do some good small group online adventuring. Heck, if we could get a big group and just rotate various adventures, that'd be awesome.

I'll check out the NWN sites. My only gripe is I'm not a big fan of ISO, even though I'll play it.

For the life of me, I don't understand why more titles are not released on DVD :dunno:

NWN was an awesome game, I just wish it had a replay value...

So many classes and choices, and no desire to play through it more than once...

Hmmm I have the gold edition I believe and hordes of the underdark, have any other expansions come out since then?

This game is really good. Crank up the difficulty and skip through the prelude crap. Each battle is a challenge. I am digging it. The fighter class seems really overpowered at low level. I am playing a wizard now and it's much more difficult.

friends of mine played this for quite a while

they found the DM tools to be pretty weaksauce, and not nearly as interactive as they had wanted

that being said, they played the shit out of it every other week for just about 2 years

I thought casters were always more difficult to play than melee or hybrids. :dunno:

If anyone else picks this up, let me know. I have a dedicated server running 24/7 now. It looks like many of the classic PnP modules have been recreated. PM's are fucked up so get in touch with me on my email.

I have it, but haven't started playing through the single player module stuff yet. I wanna do that before I get around to doing any multiplayer stuff.

PS. Monk 4tw 4true

yah no shit.

They need to make bootable/executable flash drives easy to use and then fucking shitcan the floppy drive and the cdrom once and for all.

I HATE legacy technology and the fagcommanders that still keep that shit around.

I have a persistent world called Rhun running on my server now. It's pretty cool. I haven't made the server public yet but if you are interested in checking it out, send me an email and I'll give you the login info. It's a fairly large, non-linear world ala EQ with content scaled from lvl 1-40. You'll need to create a new character from scratch to play. I've found a few bugs in it but it's pretty solid.

Check it out!
