Man Sentenced To Jail For Sex Scam

A Singaporean man who devised a sex scam involving a would-be Vietnamese bride from a marriage agency has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail.
Fan Kiet Teng, who is 64, pleaded guilty to conning the matchmaking agency and cheating the 21-year-old woman into having sex with him. Fan carried out the scam in October just two months after being released from prison, where he was held for throwing boiling water at his mistress.
Fan told a local matchmaking agency that he was a widower who made $2,000 a month, and gave the agency a fake cheque for $6,000.
He then brought his 21 year-old Vietnamese 'bride' to a hotel, where he had sex with her nine times over six days before he was forced to return her to the agency.
Fan's scam was revealed when he tried the same routine on another matchmaking agency. The second time shortly after passing a phoney cheque and leaving with a 19-year-old, the suspicious agency owner phoned him and demanded he return the "bride" when they were already outside a hotel.
Fan was arrested when he tried to leave Singapore for nearby Indonesia. An increasing number of Singaporean men are looking for overseas brides, local marriage consultant Ben Han said. "According to clients I have worked with, the difficulties in finding a local bride is because of the high expectations of local women", he added.
