oh noez!!!111

Annoying someone via the Internet is now a federal crime.

It's no joke. Last Thursday, President Bush signed into law a prohibition on posting annoying Web messages or sending annoying e-mail messages without disclosing your true identity.

I wonder how many e-annoyance officers they would have to employ and how big the Office of E-Annoyance Management would be if they were to enfroce this law

could you imagine if we actually had a president whose first name was "jeb"?

It would be pretty much guaranteed that the vice president would have to be named either "cleetus" or "pedro".

One mitigant will be that we already know many of the major perpetrators real names, and this law is just supposed to counter anonymous griefing (if it has a purpose at all)! At least one (Harrison, right?) even has his real-life name as his screen name, lol.

Actually, it says nothing about getting in trouble for being annoying if you do give your name. So let everyone know who you are and you are gravy. :)

It's unfortunate and ineffective. It's difficult to say whether the advent of the internet and the ability of total dweebs who would be otherwise crushed into a greasy spot on the road now have the ability of saying what they really think with impunity.

Some go too far, no I correct myself many go too far. Those that do I normally excuse because I figure they couldn't go that far before, and live to tell about it.

Thing is they have every right to express themselves. As evidenced by this and other BBS. Thing of it is, some of us who have for many years done our socialization mano e mano really can't understand why you'd be so quick to say something on a BBS or in a chat room that would get your skinny ass kicked in the real world.

I can accept the venting of frustrations, but the personal attacks...well. For the most part it can be considered harmless I spose, after all the recipient can always choose to ignore the instigator on the internet. But that seems unatural, doesn't it?

By and large folks on the internet are actually nicer than they would be in real life. And I find that odd as well...
