help I am no pro with jury rigged network setups =\
I have 2 Netgear Switches plugged directly into a cable modem downstairs(two uplinks)
off of one of the Netgears I have a line running upstairs to a linksys 4 port router's uplink
the end goal is for me to not buy another hub / switch and be able to use the Linksys router as one.
Is this feasible?
=\

So what's the trouble?
Switch to router needs a crossover cable if I recall, I don't deal with this type of setup much. (correct me if I'm wrong you guys).

Ok first...
Unplug the switches from the cable modem. Plug in your linksys router's uplink to the cable modem.
Plug the two switches into the 4 port switch on the linksys. More than likely you will need to use crossover cables.
Reset the factory defaults on the linksys. Reset the cable modem and then again reset the linksys router.
You should be fix't.

I need to have the Linksys where it currently is physically. The switches are 16 & 24 ports, they need to stay downstairs and thats where all the wall jacks are punched out at.
My boss is trying to make my life hell with this godawful network setup =\

hmmm... interesting... Ok something is going to have to "play router". Period.
Tell your stupid jew boss to cough up 40 bucks for a router or put two fucking NICS in one computer and use internads connection sharing.
All those switches eventually need to be plugged into a router for addressing porpiouses.

ok, here's how it goes
Modem goes to router
If you have to run more cable to do it, then run more cable
Switches plug into the router (regular cat5 is fine)
ps, you only need crossover cables when you move between same layer device
ie, layer 2 to layer 2, or 3 to 3
when you go 3-2 or 2-3 straight thru is fine
set up should look like
Modem -> Router ->switch1/2

YES U KAN. plug one of the standard ports from the 4 port switch portion of the router into another port on another switch. DON'T use the uplink!
