Can someone musically inclined tell me what the guy is playing in that music video? it looks like some kind of violin with a crank on the emd and he plays it like a guitar.

Apologies to anyone musically inclined because I am completely clueless when it comes to musical instruments, especially ones that aren't used regularly.

Thanks!

I looked up sackbut, but it's considered an old slide trombone. This thing resembles a small violin type instrument that the artist cranked on one end and played strings like a mandolin.

a sackbut is kind of a precursor to the modern day trombone

i believe there may have been a led zeppelin song or two that utilized the hurdy-gurdy, though i can't recall which
