Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced plans to bundle together UMD and DVD releases of the same movie.

The first of the DVD-UMD bundles will be available in North America on March 28. While the early double packs aren't new titles, The Grudge, Resident Evil, Underworld, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Terminator represent a nice mix of films These will be followed by Ghostbusters, Mad Max, The Fifth Element and Snatch bundles on April 25. The bundles will be priced at USD 28.95 which should appeal to PSP owners given that the RRP for many UMD movies is USD 29.99.

"A lot of people have DVD players and also have PSPs, and this way for one price they can get one movie and play it back on both formats," said Sony Pictures Home Entertainment president Benjamin Feingold when speaking to Reuters.

Currently Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has not made an announcement regarding the release of DVD-UMD bundles in Europe.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has also announced the wholesale prices for Blu-Ray movies in North America. Older movies have a price of USD 17.95, with new releases commanding the higher price of USD 23.45. No RRP has been set, so it will be down to retailers to determine their own profit margins.

That's actually a heck of a good move on Sony's part

I haven't bought any movies for my PSP because really whats the point? I can see if someone travels a lot but if I'm going to watch a movie I'll watch it at home. But if they sent something bundled for free I might watch parts on lunch break at work or something.

Since you can transfer dvds to your psp memory chip for free I dont see a point to this. However if they made the ps3 able to read umds I would start buying them since I only use my ps2 to watch movies on anyways.

PS3 is supposed to be 100% compatible with the PSP via USB. it supposedly will be able to use USB keyboard and USB mouse, unlike the 360.

The point to this is convenience. Now you won't have to convert it over. Also, from what i have seen, most people have no clue how to do it, nor are they able to follow the simple directions on how to do it.

I think it's a pretty good idea acctually, cause i don't ever really see anyone ever buying UMD movies. Could be me I don't know why anyone would really want a umd over a regular dvd, arn't UMD Movies the same price as regular dvds anyway?
