I have a 5 speed. Are you supposed to leave it in gear or in nuetral when you park?

Gear. If something happens or you forget your parking break, that way it won't go anywhere.

Unless I live right in the middle of a city where you work that left leg like a gorilla, I prefer a manual transmission. I feel like I have more control over acceleration/deceleration. Vroom Vroom.

First gear is supposed to be your "park" setting

personally i always left mine in N, and never forgot the parking brake (it's brake, lyion, not break )

however leaving it in 1 is probably the best thing to do

I can't leave mine in gear or else when I hit the auto start on the keychain my car will run away... I almost got it to run into the mall once

Well usually 1st is the one that you start out in so thats what most people do, not sure if 2nd-5th work the same way.

It doesn't matter because your car shouldn't start unless you have the clutch in anyways. But you're not going to get very far starting off in 5th. Automatic transmission cars are like velcro shoes, you know because the laces are too difficult to learn how to tie.

I always start my car in nuetral. I like to rotate what gear I park in, so none of the other gears feel left out. I have this mad obsession with everything being fair and even.

Not true for all cars, I have one that starts without clutch and two that don't.

Actually now that I think about it I might be so trained to do it automatically that I don't know anymore. Hell i hold the brake on autos now thinking the same way.

i wish i had a manual, automatics are so problem-prone

I think it just has to do with brand, my acura starts without clutch, no toyota I have ever owned will (unless its the newer ones with the no-clutch start button), and a honda I owned started without clutch as well.

I always parked with the shifter in neutral


it always irritated the shit out of me when someone else drove my car and left it in first, cause I'd step on the clutch, start it up, then let go of the clutch, and the fucker would lurch forward and stall


fwiw, in Canada, it makes a lot more sense to leave it in neutral, because in the winter you have to run the car for a min or 2 before moving to warm it up

and if you've got command start, you have to leave it in neutral

I drive a "velcro" car, so I dont know if he is right or not.

I just have a problem with all these stupid bitches on the highway with their automatics driving with a cellphone in one hand blabbing away and not paying attention.

No one ever taught me, so I still dont know how to drive it. But now I am scared of failing something so I dont do it unless I know I can get it right very quickly, so I am stalling learning with Gid, even though he offers often.

manual is a lot of fun, you feel like you have more control over the car imho, thus you are more attuned to what it is doing and how it is running

when I first got my jeep, i was doing that a lot too

can't get all the 4 wheel drive options without the automatic tho

I don't drive stick. It is too much BS when I am trying to turn around and beat on my kids in public.
