Ford

(sorry if this is a repost)

Ford won't let employees park non Ford cars in their parking lots. They say they are trying to promote buying American. One Clevelander commented that they are hypocritical. If they are so worried about people buying American, then they should buy their parts in the US.

HA

I'm perfectly fine with that. Its their business. It's their parking lot.

Yeah, they can do that if they want to... but it's really not a great thing to do to employees when they already have the threat of downsizing, eventual industry collapse, and possible benefit cuts constantly hanging over their heads.

Thats just begging for workers to steal their office supplies at the very least. XD

I don't really see what it accomplishes... besides making people late because they had to look for parking spaces. o.O It would be smarter to do some sort of reward thing for ford driving employees maybe? :/

Doesn't make me want to buy Ford cars if they're into public displays of managerial incompetence. :P

I'm not ok with it at all. You can't allow companies to dictate what people can and cannot own, use, buy, sell, or anything else.

But they can dictate where the fuck you park on their property...if at all

They're not. They're just dictating what is parked on THEIR property.

So, I can dictate if I only want white people parking on my parking lot?

No, because then black people will cry.

Every other race would get over it, they would call Jesse Jackson FTW

It's same as making people wear uniform or having dress code at work.

Which are both legal and viable tactics.

There is a huge difference between allowing only corporate cars on a corporate lot, and discriminating against race, Diekan. One is fair, the other is not.

Yep. It's much more inefficient and pointless, but they have the same basic principle and justification.

Race discrimination and choosing not to deal with or sell to people of certain races - while morally and rationally reprehensible, not to mention idiotic - is legal for private establishments under current law [provided they don't sell to the government]. Provided they aren't using violence to enforce their ridiculous policy, it's moral and social issue in those cases, not a legal one (which it should be).

As far as public corporations go, I'm sure the shareholders would (figuratively) burn the CEO and board of directors at the stake for ruining their stocks with those sorts of practices.

All companies should do this. Campbell should only allow employees to eat chunky soups on the premise and nothing else. Tyson should only allow employees to eat their chicken on the premise. Frito Lays should only allow employees to eat their chips on the premise and nothing else.

I think Gap, Banana Republic, Abercrombie and Fitch make you wear company clothes while you work.....

though the Ford thing is hysterical..... little difference in deciding what small amount you spend on a uniform and the 15, 000 + dollars you spend on a car.....

what a bunch of winners. I think with that policy they should end up making up for losing the US auto market and making jacked decisions for the past 4 decades....

A better analogy would be complaining that Campbell doesn't sell Chunky Soup in their vending machines.

Nothing like paying people tens of thousands each year while fighting to survive, and having your employee supporting your competition and flaunting it on company property. I'd go one further, just fire those who do not support the company.

I see it differently, Ford wants their workers to Buy American. Yet the parts in the cars that they make are not made in America. They are being hypocrites. And The Abercrombie and Fitch store in our Mall only lets the employees buy their work clothes from there.

Who did you hear this from? I know the UAW halls dont allow foreign cars in their lots... but I have been to my dads office many times and see all sorts of vehicles parked in the Ford lots.

I'll look up the link, but if it takes more than 15 minutes, you will have to wait until later. I have to get going for an appointment.

Sure someone can find the link but I remember reading in a Time/USA Today or something like that where a few (ex)employees of a company were suing because they were fired for breaking the company’s no-smoking rule. The rule wasn't just “no smoking at work”, but no smoking period. Not at work, home, anywhere.

The company won.

I still say that neither a company, nor the government has any right to tell you what you can, cannot do, but sell, use - as long as it's legal.

I don't see this as an exercise of a company's rights - I see it as an attack on personal liberties. I don't care if Ford owns the parking lot or not. Sinse when is it illegal to buy a Toyota? Ford telling its employees they can only park piece of shit Fords in their parking lots is wrong, period.

By the way it should tell you something when the employees of a company don't even drive the products they make haha.

Totally agree with this. Its stupid bullshit and should be illegal, period. Just more corporate overreach.

You are overlooking something here. They are not telling their employees what they can own. They are only telling them what they can park on their lots. Childish, I agree, but still, it's their lot.It is similar to what you would call (by your argument) breaking the second amendment by telling them no guns on their fucking lot.

I'm waiting for someone with a non ford vehical to no park on their parking lot, get hurt walking accross the street / mugged / something else happen. Then said individual sueing the fucking shit out of Ford for not offering a safe work enviroment.

Posted: Tue Feb 21, 2006 1:19 pm

Wouldn't happen, their commute to work isn't part of a "safe work environment".

If Ford doesn't want foreign cars in their OWN PARKING LOT...that's tough shit to the assholes who don't support their company.
