Yes killer games on the horizon. I dont know why people are hating on the 360 so much, its freaking awesome. If you buy one, youll have a nice selection of sweet-ass games to keep you busy.

agreed.

i loved Goldeneye to death on the N64, but that was the last shooter i ever really enjoyed on a console. analog movement/aiming, and split screen multiplayer just doesn't cut it after using a mouse/keyboard + cable connection.

and from what i've seen, X-box live sucks fat cock. it's laggy as hell, and on a lot of the games lacks any kind of interface for choosing your own server, it just puts you with like-ranked ppl it searches for. at the very least those asshats have no business charging for the service, PS2 multiplayer was free.

to be honest, you'd probably be better off spending that $ on a new monster video card that can play Oblivian and any other 1337 games that'll be 1000x better on a PC than a console.

I'm a year away from a PC upgrade. In 04 I bought a 939 3500/Gig DDR2/dual Raptors/6800 GT which still plays everything fine. I can hook the PC up to the TV, but I also enjoy quite a few PS2/Xbox games and was hoping 360 was starting to deliver some killer games that would give me a reason to buy one.

I'm sure eventually a lot of gamers will have both a PS3 and 360. Thats my plan longterm, but I can't see buying a 400+ dollar console unless there's at least a handful of killer games for it.

That list is good, Mo, but until the games are released, and I see reviews it doesn't mean much.

I have a super fast computer and there is still no comparison. Comp will be good for some things, XBOX for others. But I cant sit on my couch and use my comp on my 42 inch hdtv with 7.1 dolby digital surrounding me.

I'm thinking about getting a new rig with a nice monitor. Is it better to get one of the larger HD TVs like the one Lyion has above, or is there a quality tradeoff to, say, a 24 inch Dell LCD (or even the 30 inch one)?

If you have the space, I'd highly suggest considering getting a 37 or 42" LCD TV. The real thing is the cost, but for 2k the Sceptre LCD is a good deal.

I don't agree. It's a learning curve just like going from keyboard/joystick on old PC's to mouse/keyboard setup. I agree that mouse/keyboard is much more responsive and probably a "better" control scheme for shooters BUT I have more fun sitting in my lounger with a small wireless controller than I do hunched over a keyboard/mouse setup.

Once you get passed the learning curve, the dual analog control/trigger control scheme kicks ass for any type of shooter. Circle strafing, run and gun, etc... you can do all of that with tight precision on an xbox controller and as long as everyone is using a controller, the playing field is level.

Any day now Dell will be announcing the new versions of their widescreen monitors. HDCP so vista ready, new faster panels also, 6ms I think. Im waiting on those to go on sale so I can see what the pricing is like before I buy one. Needs to be quick though, my CRT is going bad quickly.

With a PC hooked up to my home theatre system, and using a nostromo and a mouse (1 rests on each arm of the chair) I can get the same "lounging" experience as an Xbox player, but with the added benefit of a better controller setup

There's absolutely nothing you can do on Xbox that you can't do with a PC, but there's quite a bit you can do wtih a PC that you can't with an Xbox

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying there's not a niche for each, I'm just saying that FPS are almost always better on the PC (while sports/fighting games are almost always better on the console)

Except with most sports games you can easily use a controller and get the same control setup as you do with a console and still get all the downloadable content/mods.

the sports games, for whatever reason, just don't feel as good on PC, compared to console

using the exact same controller for both, the console (in this case ps2) sports game just feels better

Regardless of how you "think" a game is supposed to respond, if the game is coded with a console controller in mind and everyone playing is using the same controller, the playing field is level. You might suck using a controller but I could kick most peoples ass using a controller, keyboard/mouse, flightstick, pair of chopsticks, etc. I just rule.

No, it's not really like saying that at all.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter came out today. After putting a few hours on it, I have to say its worth owning a 360 to play. The game looks amazing in HD, and the gameplay is outstanding.

Oblivion and Blazing Angels both are being released this month, hopefully they live up to the hype as well as Ghost Recon did.
