Any idea which WR's will be available late late in the first round?


after winning the SB, i think Randle El will be gone via free agency, and it'll basically be the gaping hole they'll need to fill

Replacing Randle El as a receiver is not hard since he is just an average one. Just look at his numbers. The Steelers can use one of their current receivers for that. Replacing Randle El as a kick returner and a part time passer will be a lot harder.

eh, numbers aren't that important really, it's more the deep threat/utility threat

deep thread...no. Randle El is not a deep thread since he doesnt have the speed for it.

Honestly, I don't think losing Randle El is a big deal. He's not a strong route runner, and you can teach gadget plays to others fairly easily.

Ward is and reamins their stud at WR, and Wilson is as good as Randle El.

he's got sub 4.5 speed which while not blazing fast, is pretty decent

I think it's the combination of the abilities that makes him important

if all he could do was gadget plays, you could defense it fairly easily

but he can go deep if he catches a corner/safety cheating/napping, and coupled with his ability to run, and throw on the run is what makes him dangerous

Santonio Holmes is the only WR going in the first round, from the projections i've read. It should be late too, although I don't know if it will be at the end where Pittsburgh is picking. This is a weak weak year for WR's.

I think the Steeler is more likely to draft a running back than a wide receiver.

between Parker, Staley and Haynes they really don't need much

A real wide receiver makes more sense (or maybe a safety, I'm hearing they may lose Chris Hope)

Staley hasn't play regularly for two years and Hayes is an unrestricted free agent. While Parker is an exclusive-rights free agent.

Staley is not reliable. Hayes is a third down back. That leaves Parker as Pitts only every down back.

You really don't need to draft a RB high to get quality, but I expect Pitt to look at some in the later rounds.

He just had the misfortune of getting a bit dinged up early, then being a casualty of the coach riding a hot running back


I expect him to slide into Bettis's role of the last couple years with Parker carrying the majority of the load with Haynes coming in on 3rd down and the occassional series here and there

I don't know the stats, but I just remember him always being dinged up a lot in Philly, and his time in Pitt has been similar.

I'd put money on him at least missing 3-5 games this year due to being hurt.

Pitt isn't hurting at RB, but I do expect them to look at some other guys.

The club I'm curious about is Balt. Are they going to keep Jamal, look at a free agent RB, make Taylor there main man, or go via the draft. I'm also curious who they'll bring in to compete with Boller.

Cinci also has some QB decisions, but they'd be silly not to offer Kitna a lil green & a signing bonus for a few year deal.

Word on the street is they're very interested in Drew Brees. a QB good enough to make the defenses play honest, and they're a 10 win team again, np

as for duce Duce's Career stats

he's played all 16 games 5/9 years, 13 and 10 games, and 2 major injury years of 5 games

He's also caught 40+ passes 5 times

I dunno, I think that playing the bettis role will reduce the wear and tear on him, and let him put up 400ish yards and 10 TD's

Won't happen. Maybe two, but I doubt it. This is the weakest WR crop in several years.

Most of the mock drafts have the Steelers taking Mangold out of Ohio State since Hartings is getting old.

I think he'd be a good fit

Tim Dwight would be a nice replacement for Randle El. A guy who can return, be a good third WR, and is a deep threat.
