Not sure why or how (probably something needs tweaking with the ports) but with ZA, my download speed is 200k/s and after uninstalling it the speed jumps to 700k+/s. Gave the program full permissions but it still affects it somehow.

Software firewalls are crap. Buy a real firewall.

I have to agree here, if a firewall is really important to you, just get a hardware firewall. Hell they cost the same as the software ones but are considerably beter.

Zone Alarm=free..lol

Wasn't critical to me because there isn't really anything on my pc that I'm protecting../shrug Just figured ZA would somehow protect me from viruses sneakin in or somethin etc..fuck i don't know...

:dunno:

it does

it has to inspect pretty much every packet that hits it tho, and that's why you lose throughput

hardware firewalls are a lot more efficient, until you turn SPI on (unless you've got big hardware)

Ah damn..I was hoping when I gave certain programs open access it would open the door for them...

all it really does is allow them access to the ports

it still has inspect each packet to make sure that it's also intended for that port, etc etc
