Anyone have one? How do you like it?
My dad has one, that I've worn a few times. They're very very nice. Extremely accurate, solidly built, and definitely looks good.

It's a watch. My cell phone tells me the time and the clock on the dash of my car does as well.

A Yugo, Gremlin or Pinto will get you from point A to point B when you need to drive somewhere. By your comparison, that must mean you drive a Yugo, instead of a niec car, right? Since the Yugo or Gremlin would do the job just as well?

I dont buy cheap watches Arlos however I still cant bring myself to coughing up 5g's for a fucking watch. 150...yeah 200...depends on what it does.
My watch was 275.00 a few years ago and can pull down my GPS Coordinate, as well as elevation. Soon as the Rolex can do that Ill consider buying one.
As for the Gremlin comment, that really hurts. I came damn close to being born in the back of a 1970 Gremlin on the way to the maternity ward.

I drive a 94 Toyota Corolla. It gets me from point a to point b.

If you have every debt paid off, and more than enough in your 401k to retire on, then get one if you can pay cash for it. Otherwise you're just another sheep.

Guess I'm just itching to spend my tax return. I've always bought cheapie type watches like fossils so I wondered what it would be like to have a really nice watch for once. That and, I'd never have to buy a watch ever again, and that I could pass this watch down to my kids, grandkids yada yada.

Save the money. From posts you've made in the past, it seems like you're doing well financially, and that's great. But, that doesn't mean that you need to spend it. You've brought up how you've spent your money and that you're doing well several times, so it's clear that you want to let people know you're doing well. Though I think it's better to keep that personal, it's up to you.
But don't go out and do something extravagant with the thought that people will be impressed. Some will be, but many will think you're wasting your money. What's worse, is that, in my experience, the people who are extravagant with their money are rarely making the amount that they should be to warrant the expense.
My advice: save the money. If you don't need it for a while, invest it.

I made one post when I got my new car and I think I said I'm doing ok despite going through public school, otherwise I don't see where I've done anything on the board stating that I'm otherwise financially well off or anything like that. I'm not worried where my next meal is coming from, but I'm not Larry Ellison either. Mostly I post stupid one liners and make fun of people. I guess if that suggests financial status then yay go money.
There's an old guy who just bought a Presidential and wants to sell me his 2 tone oyster with the blue face for 1500. Considering the guy had it for 2 years and kept it in mint I 've been thinking about it since I'd never have to buy another watch again. That and I'm single, no kids, no gf. Why not?

Check into Hamilton, they make very unique watches and cost considerably less. I bought the watch Will Smith wore in MiB in a Hollywood auction for around $2000 which was what they claimed it would have been retail and it has worked great. The fact mine is one of kind makes it's uniqueness value higher but they have many others that will get people's attention. Use the rest of the money and take a vacation with someone.

I have a Rolex Submariner that my father got me when he and my mother were on vacation one year (he bought himself one as well). It's a very nice watch it's very heavy though, and if if you don't wear them every day you will have to reset the time all the time, since they don't use batteries, and use your body's arm movment to keep it's mechanisim "charged". It does keep time perfectly though, you just have to wear it, every day.

I think I was referring to a post you made about all the gadgets you buy (maybe I'm remembering someone else). At one point you mentioned how you like to have the latest technology, and something similar about being able to b/c you've got the money, no gf, no kids, etc. Basically similar to your last line but also mentioning that you were doing well. Also, didn't you post about being a Consultant who was traveling to Hong Kong on business once too?
BTW, I see posting about a Rolex as being along the same lines. "hey guys, should I buy a Rolex" says to me "hey, I've got more money than I know what to do with! Should I do something silly with it??"
Anyway, I'm making a bigger deal about this than it is, so I'm going to slink back into my lurker status...

Rolexes are nice, but the designs are dated IMO.
If you are in your 20's I highly recommend a Movado. Sleek, classy and about the best damn 1500 bucks or so you can ever spend.

In some cases, as with Rolexes, you're not just paying for the name, you're paying for the quality the thing is made with. My dad's rolex is about 40 years old now (he got it from my grandfather as a wedding present when he married my mom in 1967), and it still keeps absolutely perfect time. Given the price of the watches, and the clientele they sell them to, the company is also well aware that keeping its reputation depends on keeping people happy AFTER they buy the watch. So, their affiliates bend over backwards to help you out should anything go wrong, or the watch ever need any repairs, and have absolutely impeccable service.
On top of that, in many cases the watch is as much a piece of jewelry acceptible in upper-corporate culture as it is a timekeeping instrument. My dad's, for example, is 18K gold, including the band (weighs a ton), and looks awesome. It's something that is completely at home in a corporate upper executive boardroom, which is the world he was in for a lot of his working life.

It's the same sort of reason people will buy pens from Cross or Mont Blanc, or a expensive Zippo lighter instead of buying a plastic ball point or a disposable Bic. Ultimately, how much my dad's watch is worth is irrelevant to me, as no one in the family would ever consider selling it. I know I'm going to inherit it when he passes away, and I will pass it on to my firstborn son, if I ever have one. You think a cheap plastic Timex would become a family heirloom?

watches are a bit different in a lot of ways
99% of the time, you get exactly what you're paying for. a high quality mechanical time peice is very difficult to make, and design.
There's a very old saying something along the lines of "..even poor clock makers are rich people.."
don't get me wrong, I couldn't ever justify paying $5k for a watch that can do less than my $20 digital watch
