Who here's in the Beta?

I ask because I've been offered a beta account via one of my batphone connections, the nature of which I am not going to go into here. So, I wanted to find out if it's worth my time to try it out, or if it just sucks that bad. If it sucks that bad, I may just wait and change the offer to one for the Bioware MMO instead.

If you don't want to answer publicly, feel free to PM me about it.

I have a question, what are people thinking of the beta so far? Yeah yeah NDA my ass.

It can't be worse than WoW.

I've got a friend in beta, havn't talked to him in a month or so though. He says at this point you need a hardcore system to run it, cause it hasn't been optimized that well. He said if you can though, that it's gorgeous graphics wise. I don't know a lot about tech stuff, but he emphasized something about like... if you're in a forest, the level of detail is so intense that you can see the different textures on each leaf on the trees and shit like that.

He also said he gets about 90 fps in WoW and about 10 fps in vanguard, and he has a really nice machine, so you tech folks take that for what its worth.

Didn't really describe the gameplay much. He's low level and doesn't get to play it a lot. So, anyways - thats what I know about it, albeit quite limited.

I wonder if Vanguard is being built with Vista in mind. Vista itself takes a mini cray to run.

I've heard rumors from friends, but no beta invite for me.

Arlos, there have been a few threads here about it already. The consensus as far as I can tell is that:
1) There's crazy lag
2) The game is challenging
3) The game is painful at times (apparently parley was a mini-game), but they're moving away from some of the really annoying stuff due to Beta player complaints
4) It's probably 6 months away from launch

If I were you, I'd try it out if you've got a great computer. Otherwise, it's probably better to hold out.

EDIT:
Here are a few of the threads (in order of recent to old) from this forum. Goose had posted some stuff about it in a WoW forum, but I couldn't find it quickly:

Well, I've got a pretty good computer, though I dunno if it qualifies as "Great"

Athlon X2 4800
2 Gigs of RAM
nVidia 7800 GTX 256meg
SoundBlaster X-Fi sound card

However, I don't have a 10k rpm main drive, nor am I running SLI, so I think I don't hit the "Great" category.

I'll probably get it and check it out just to see. I still dunno that I'd play it much, since there was a LOT that bugged me about original EQ that didn't get fixed until the original team left.

Let us know how it runs Arlos, I have a similar setup to you (just a little bit under).

Athlon X2 3800
2 GIGS RAM
7800GT 256
300G WD 8MB SATA

you need LOTS AND LOTS of horsepower to run it smoothly

it's really early now, and it's hard to say how it'll turn out
I look back on the early EQ beta's and release was a totally diff't game from that

It's not as smooth as WoW (at this point of development) but it has a lot more potential IMO

but the road is littered with games with good potential that died without meeting it

if you get a chance at beta take it

it's not like it's costs you anything to install it, hate/love it

So, did you decide to take the offer? If so, post about your experience with it! (or at least PM :boots: )

Hook a brother up!

I've been on the Vanguard Forums since the early days, and I recieved a pre beta email about 8 months ago, but haven't recieved an invite. I''m sure when they get closer to release and the game is more stable they'll do an open beta.

My only concern is if they're building this game for the 360, which makes sense since Microsoft is funding it and they'll need a killer app to fight the PS3.

good, so you got in.

Every single person except for a few fanbois hasn't had a whole lot positive to say about the game.

While it's still in development I would expect more fervor from a game with the original EQ crew at the helm.

I would like to think there's not alot of hype because Vanguard will be difficult and a step back to an older style MMO without everything dumbed down. So the initial reaction would be vs. what we're "used to" now, which I would welcome.

Of course, it might just suck.

see, this is what I kind of expected

you remember the opening system that was in EQ briefly?

well, that's vanguard

if harder means "pay attention to when you have to push buttons" then sure

I still think it'll be an ok game, but at this stage of development, I can't stand it
part of it is my hardware is borderline, so it doesn't run particularly well atm
